prometheus

Here is a new featurette for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, one of the most anticipated films of the year.  This is worth watching for anyone looking forward to the film opening in 3D on June 8th.  It’s all about Ridley Scott in this clip, the cast is gushing over working with him and in the process we see a lot of behind the scenes footage, and it looks amazing.

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

lawless

Here is the first trailer for Lawless, a crime drama based on the novel The Wettest County in the World, it’s a great trailer with an even better cast, a must watch.  Directed by John Hillcoat (The Road) the film aims to take on prohibition and the bootleggers who gain from it, that can make for some great entertainment. Did I mention Shia LaBeouf , Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman star?

New Trailer for G.I. JOE: RETALIATION

April 24th, 2012 by Graham McMorrow

GI-Joe

For those looking for some story with their G.I. Joe movies, this trailer is for you.  I have to admit, these trailers are pretty cool, the action is heavy (as is the CGI) but looks like fun.  They brought in The Rock and Bruce Willis (who plays original Joe) and it seems to be paying off.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation opens June 29.

The City Strip #100 – Dream Within A Dream

April 23rd, 2012 by Graham McMorrow

“Welcome to The City Strip.  Here you will find a selection of illustrated laughing squares that spotlight ignorance, irony, sarcasm and…movies, sure what the hell.”  - April 5, 2010

On April 5, 2010 CityofFilms.com changed forever.  We posted our first comic by Kevin Fraser and now two years later, we celebrate one hundred comics.  It seems like just yesterday I was asking him to make a comic with us telling him “stick with me Kevin, I’ll have you farting through silk”.  I thank Kevin each week when he sends me the latest comic, but I get the feeling he is much too humble to give it much thought.  He’s a great friend and colleague and it is with great pride we get to work with him, he’s doing great things here and we can’t wait to see what his future brings.

With #100, we sought out to express our love for movies with the gang and what better way than to layer it with references from our favorite films.  Thanks to you the readers for visiting regularly, commenting, sending us links and for just letting us have fun.  And again, thank you Kevin, let’s do it all again alright?

He is a man of few words when it comes to his work on our site but I was lucky enough to get some from him to commemorate this moment:

Well here we are everyone.  The City Strip #100.  We’re ready for syndication!  It seems like just yesterday that Graham and Ryan contacted me about putting together a comic.  They said “Kevin ya wanker, get off yer arse and draw us sum pictures!”  Thus The City Strip was born.

In all seriousness, it’s been an incredible ride and I have both Graham and Ryan to thank for giving me the opportunity (and excuse) to draw every week.  Also, a huge thank you to each and every one of you who’ve taken the time to read these silly comics over the past one hundred strips.  Just knowing that any one of them have made someone laugh…well, that’s one of the best feelings in the world.  So thank you again and here’s to the next hundred!  Now get outta my office!

The CoF Weekend Preview: Chimpan-A to Chimpanzee

April 20th, 2012 by Graham McMorrow

Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview, here is a look at what’s opening this weekend and what else you might want to watch. Check back Monday for THE CITY STRIP #100.  There might be will be more hype before Monday so check back tomorrow to see.

CHIMPANZEERT (75%) – Trailer

I like these nature docs, nothing I would spend over $10 to see in theaters, but home viewing is always nice.  You know Karl Pilkington will be watching.

THE LUCKY ONERT (22%) – Trailer

I have been defending Zac Efron since 17 Again surprised the hell out of me.  You’re on your own with this one Mr. Efron, more Nicholas Sparks dreck for people to compare to The Notebook.

THINK LIKE A MANRT (52%) – Trailer

Obviously Gabrielle Union is in this movie based on Steve Harvey’s book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man: What Men Really Think about Love, Relationships, Intimacy, and Commitment.  We are glad they shortened the title.  I’m sure this movie will offend everyone.

MARLEYRT (96%) – Trailer

Is it coincidence they are releasing this on 4/20?  Maybe, but this looks like a solid documentary that probably won’t say anything new to fans of Bob Marley but should introduce his life and music to another generation.

OTHER:

The Ricky Gervais Show (HBO, Friday) – Season 3 baby!  Here’s a clip, here’s another and one more.
