If you missed a chance to see Transformers: Dark of the Moon on an IMAX screen, Michael Bay has a solution for you! Paramount has decided to re-release Transformers 3 in 246 North American IMAX theaters from August 26-September 8. The film has been “digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology for presentation in IMAX 3D.”
If anyone out there can tell me just what the bloody hell that means, I’ll own you a Coke. To be fair, I’m told the movie is worth seeing in IMAX, I can’t tell you who told me this, it might have been a comic strip.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 pulled in an crazy $168.55M this weekend, breaking the previous record held by The Dark Knight, which had made $158.7 million during its first weekend. The film will make the $1B mark as its worldwide gross is already at $476 million. Magical.
Hallows 2 took in $43.5M from its midnight screenings alone and with records like that being broken, people can now look to blame high theater counts and 3D ticket prices…or we can just all agree it was a great ride and the Harry Potter collection will be a great addition to our Christmas lists this year.
Disney’s G-rated 2D Winnie the Pooh earned $8M and with $261M total now, Transformers: Dark of the Moon passed The Hangover Part II this weekend to become the year’s highest grossing movie.
With $261M in the bank domestically, Transformers: Dark of the Moon passed The Hangover Part II this weekend to become the year’s highest grossing movie. The happiest news thought is that Horrible Bosses beat the Zookeeper.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 opens next weekend and should be breaking records and taking names. They got my money that’s for sure. We had the R-rated comedies The Hangover Part II and Bridesmaids earlier this summer, and now we have Horrible Bosses to take the reins for now, Bad Teacher didn’t do so bad either. With all these films doing solid weekends and getting back their budgets, who knows, studios might make better comedies now! Exciting.
Cars 2 went on to win the weekend with an estimated $68M, about $8M more than the original brought home in 2006. I don’t think it’s going to break any major records (remember that time Toy Story 3 made over $1B worldwide?) but it did well for a movie that was critically shat on. Here are some numbers:
Cars 2 takes its place in the list of 2011 3D movies to bring in less than 50% ticket sales for the dingy format. With 40% of the film’s earnings so far coming from 3D, compare that to when Pixar’s Up hit theaters, 52% was 3D tickets and only 40% of theaters even had 3D! It’s finally happening and I couldn’t be happier, 3D is hopefully going away.
If there’s one man who can save it, it’s Michael Bay. Transformers 3 hits on the 29th and from what’s being thrown around, it means serious business when it comes to 3D. We will see when it opens on the 29th.
The full theatrical trailer is here for Michael Bay‘s Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, and it’s everything you want from a Transformers movie and John Turturro. We get a galore of explosions and shots of Optimus Prime kicking ass, it’s glorious. Frances McDormand makes an appearance, threw me off too.
Can Michael Bay make up for Transformers 2? Will his first use of 3D make me like 3D? Check out the HD trailer at Apple or watch below. Leonard Nimoy! July 1st baby!
The official teaser trailer for Michael Bay’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, has been released . The films stars Shia It will be released July 1st 2011. USA Today has an article on Transformers 3 titled “Next ‘Transformers’ is due for a switch” which has Michael Bay and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura explaining what went wrong with the previous installment, mostly the rushed schedule and writers strike. There are a few interesting bits about the newest film to be found in the article, here is a sample courtesy of /Film. It can be great, I know it can. The first Transformers was a lot of fun – and now with Michael Bay himself saying the 2nd one was a pile, we are off to a good start with Transformers 3: The Babe Changed. (more…)
Transformers was a fun movie; the sequel was a pile, and the 3rd film coming at us July 2011 is shaping up to be something better (Shia says it has to be). So what’s all the fuss about? Well it started last year during a promotional tour for Jennifer’s Body, Megan Fox said working with Michael Bay on the Transformers movies was awful and went on to compare the man to Hitler. Did she think a threequel was out of the question? Seems so.
Sources say Paramount won’t be picking up Megan Fox for Transformers 3 and it was “ultimately” director Michael Bay’s decision. Right now Bay is finishing up the script for the film and “giving Shia a new love interest makes more sense for the story”, Bay will start casting immediately for the new female co-star. So that news spread online at a mental rate – so much so that Fox’s people have spoken out to tell us: Megan Fox Says It Was Her Decision to Leave Transformers 3 and that she wishes the franchise the best. Can you say damage control? Cast Blake Lively, done. Pay me. (more…)
McDormand will play the National Intelligence Director, while Malkovich will play Shia’s first boss. The film will be shot in LA, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow, and China, with pre-shoots beginning in about a month. What racial stereotypes will Bay have up his sleeve this time? After the jump, the best of Ken from when he co-hosted WWE Raw. Seriously. (more…)
