Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows didn’t hold onto the top spot, but what else can you do after breaking so many records? It held up well and should continue on its way to be one of the biggest of the year and the franchise. Captain American took the lead, let’s look at some numbers.
1. Captain America – $65.8M
2. Harry Potter – $48M – $274.2M
3. Friends with Benefits – $18.5M
4. Transformers 3 – $12M – $325.8M
5. Horrible Bosses – $11.72M – $82.4M

I thought for sure Captain America would face the same humiliation as Green Lantern did, but I guess people just prefer Marvel to DC, or so I’m sure some people will spin it to seem. The truth is Green Lantern looked horrible and Captain America has Nazi’s, and people love them some Nazi killings. Whatever the reason, Captain now holds the highest debut for a comic book hero in 2011, previously held by Thor’s $65.7M debut.
So how did another R-rated comedy do? Well not as well as Bridemaids ($24M) and Bad Teacher ($31M) and not as much as its twin No String Attached (19.6M). Next week: Cowboys and Aliens, The Smurfs and Crazy, Stupid, Love.
