Titanic 3D Featurette With James Cameron

titanic

Below you can watch a featurette for Titanic 3D, it’s been said that James Cameron put a lot of work into this project and didn’t want to just convert and hope of the best, he even polished up the 2D version for us.  It will be interesting to see how the final hour of the film plays out in 3D, it’s great cinema with or without the added dimension.

Hit the jump to watch the featurette, Titanic 3D opens April 6th, 2012.

titanicHere is the trailer for James Cameron’s 3D release of Titanic. The film will be released on April 6 in 3D and IMAX 3D theaters. Titanic is the second-highest grossing movie of all time behind Cameron’s other film Avatar.  Titanic won Best Picture and Best Director at the Academy Awards.  And yes, inaccuracies aside I enjoyed this movie a whole lot, no irony.

I don’t think I need to go on about the plot here, but I will share a scary thought: Gwyneth Paltrow was up for the role of Rose and Matthew McConaughey for Jack.  Who else just shuddered?  The film is sure to hit Blu-ray around the same time, might be a good time to put away the double VHS you still have.

Titanic 3D Release Date

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

titanicMy personal philosophy is that post conversion should be used for one thing and one thing only – which is to take library titles that are favorites that are proven, and convert them into 3D – whether it’s Jaws or ET or Indiana Jones, Close Encounters… or Titanic. Unless you have a time machine to go back and shoot it in 3D, you have no other choice. The best alternative is if you want to release a movie in 3D – make it in 3D. - James Cameron [BBC]

Now with that out of the way, Titanic will be released April 6, 2012 in 3D.

This Just Happened: Titanic 2

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Titanic 2A joke gone too far?  A dare perhaps?  Either way, this is actually happening and here the trailer for proof.  The Asylum is a direct-to-DVD production company responsible for producing knock-offs of the latest big budget Hollywood movies (termed Knockbusters) and now they bring us Titanic 2.  This is the kind of movie that when I worked at a video store, single laborer types would come in for. I am not even sure what that means.

The Asylum’s past titles include: The Da Vinci Treasure, Snakes on a Train, Transmorphers, The Day the Earth Stopped and Paranormal Entity.  Classics.

On the 100th anniversary of the original voyage, a modern luxury liner christened Titanic 2, follows the path of its namesake. But when a tsunami hurls an ice berg into the new ship’s path, the passengers and crew must fight to avoid a similar fate.
TITANIC 2 stars Bruce Davison, Brooke Burns, Shane Van Dyke, and Marie Westbrook and will be released on DVD on August 24, 2010. (more…)

Titanic 3D in April 2012

Monday, July 5th, 2010

TitanicCameron, you got some ‘splainin’ to do! James Cameron has been talking about rereleasing Titanic in 3D for years now, and  the LA Times says it might finally happen in 2012.  Cameron has been a strong advocate against  post converted 3D movies, so this is strange.  He must be making new technology so he doesn’t come off as a hypocrite.

Cameron has previously said that Fox is targeting Spring 2012 release for the 3D version, to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of the sailing of the ship. The director is currently “converting the blockbuster into 3-D for re-release in April 2012, the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking.”

UPDATE: somebody’s closer

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

It looks like this coming week, history will change.  Yes ticket prices are higher, 3D cost more and inflation isn’t just your momma’s math.  But who cares, AVATAR is an awesome movie and TITANIC will pass the torch…or I’m telling!

UPDATE: AVATAR has surpassed TITANIC as the highest grossing movie in US history. AVATAR had already become the biggest worldwide.  Fox announced this morning that AVATAR has officially brought in $601.2 million, pushing it over the $600.8 million that TITANIC raked in back in 1998. And AVATAR is still #1 at the box-office.  With no films proving they can knock off AVATAR as #1 at the box-office and the 9 Oscar nominations it received only giving it an extra boost, it’s possible it could reach $1 billion before it’s all said and done (unlikely, but possible).

You're so money and you don't even know it! Ah, you probably do.

You're so money and you don't even know it! Ah, you probably do.

After only 17 days, AVATAR has grossed over 1 BILLION dollars around the world, is the 4th highest grossing worldwide movie of all-time and sits in 15th place domestically (see charts below).  It’s still at #1 on the box-office and has not lost even 10% of its audience. Weekend 1 ($75M). Weekend 2 ($73M). Weekend 3 ($68M).  You can’t doubt James Cameron anymore.  By the end of the week, the film is expected to surpass Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Return of the King to become the #2 worldwide release.  Cameron’s Titanic remains seated at #1.  Cameron has become the first director to have two films earn $1 Billion. And by the end of the week, it should be up to $3 billion total between the two movies.  The man will be able to do anything, but I’m still holding out for a Terminator 3 (I said what I said).  Read our AVATAR Review here and notice it on our list of movies you should have seen in 2009.

Review: Avatar (2009)

avatarposter

I saw AVATAR this past weekend with no expectations.  Believe it or not, I stayed clear of a lot of hype – you might thank me for not posting a million stories on CoF about it.  This was my FIRST 3D movie; I was unaware of this non-option as well until the nice gal at the Box Office informed me it’s only in 3D.  So was it everything the internet world has said it is?  Yes.  Yes it is.  New technology had to be created to make this movie, James Cameron held out until it was invented.  The man has patience.  He’s told a story that isn’t from a comic, teen novel, or TV show.  This movie is why theater going will never die (so I hope).  There should be a lot of comparisons to Star Wars; Cameron has created just as Lucas did; a new world of exploration, characters and storytelling.  The movie going experience itself was nothing short of extraordinary and I would like to do it again.  This was the event of the year and the best way to send 2009 into history.

avatar trailer is here!

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

avatarDirector: James Cameron
Writer: James Cameron
Cast: Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi
Synopsis: In the future, Jake, a paraplegic war veteran, is brought to another planet, Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na’vi, a humanoid race with their own language and culture. Those from Earth find themselves at odds with each other and the local culture.

Avatar is the BIGGEST movie of 2009. There is literally no other movie that in any way, shape, or form that could conceivably be bigger. It’s the first theatrical movie written and directed by James Cameron since Titanic, i.e. the highest grossing movie EVER. [from my best of yet to come]

Cameron has spent the better part of a decade prepping for Avatar and had to wait for technology to catch up for his creation to be made…jesus.  In theaters: December 18, 2009. JUMP FOR TRAILER (give it a moment if it doesn’t start, many o people are watching).  Check it out at apple if you like.  I won’t spoil anything, but yes…this is fantastic.
