Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview, here is a look at what’s opening this weekend. You might have noticed a few goodies this week like our Fall & Holiday Movie Guide, Kevin’s The Review and if you’re hanging around on weekends I’ll be dropping another Sunday Soundtrack.
The Master expands on September 21st but will be playing in a few places this weekend so I figured I would give it the top spot as an excuse to look at Joaquin Phoenix’s face up there. Look at it, he’s just so happy to be taking pictures. I wish I loved anything as much as he loves taking pictures. Oh yes, this movie is getting rave reviews (obviously) and I’ll post a review once I see it (twice).
This movie broke records at the box office as well as on home video. So who’s going to go see this again and in 3D? (Ed. Note: As I typed that, I was making a “I don’t get it” face.)
This is why:

The Master – September 14
Synopsis: A Naval veteran arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future – until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader.
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Stars: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams
Analysis: Paul Thomas Anderson is one of our best directors; his resume includes Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love and one of my favorite movies of all time, There Will Be Blood. The Master is sure to be a controversial film and talk of the awards season. Read – FOCUS: Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master will be screening the film in 70mm today at 7:30 PM in Austin, TX (The Alamo Drafthouse Ritz). Those lucky souls will be treated to something great no doubt, and lucky for the rest of us there is a new clip from the much anticipated movie.
This clip is very NSFW (get headphones) and shows Joaquin Phoenix taking aNavy psychological examination. The Master has been gaining a lot of postive buzz, so much so that the jury at the Venice Film Festival who liked the movie so much, they ran out of awards to give it (seriously).
The film also stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams. It opens in limited release September 14th and expands on September 21st. Watch the clip below:
Here is a new TV spot for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master; a lot has been said about the movie on this site, with each clip or trailer I think we are justified in our excitement. The clips are pretty ominous which is great for a movie that already has people’s curiosity and attention.
The Master opens in limited release on September 14th and expands on September 21st. Watch the clip below:

Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master hits theaters nationwide in less than a month, excited? You can listen to a track from Johnny Greenwood’s (Radiohead) score for the film below to get you in the mood even more.
Greenwood scored Anderson’ s There Will Be Blood, doing a great job, so we expect nothing less here.
The soundtrack will be available on September 11th. The Master opens on September 14th.
Here’s the tracklist for the soundtrack, followed by “Application 45 Version I” that you can listen to below via The Playlist.
I’m not usually one to post clips, but the anticipation for The Master is actually making me lose sleep. OK maybe that’s too much, but this clip is great anyways. The one and only I will watch and likely share, you have to go in fresh right? See my article – FOCUS: Paul Thomas Anderson’s THE MASTER.
The quality of this film is outstanding; everything from the performances just in trailers and this clip alone to the 70mm hype and style of the picture. What a beautiful score we have here too.
The Master opens on September 14.
A striking portrait of drifters and seekers in post World War II America, Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master unfolds the journey of a Naval veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) who arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future — until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman).
