Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview, here is a look at what’s opening this weekend for wide and limited releases.  Check back Monday for a new City Strip.  There are a lot of great movies coming out this year, so we all picked Our Top 5 Movies To See In 2012 and listed other notable releases for you.

The GreyRT (76%) – Trailer

With the buzz and hype surrounding this movie, it has a great chance of making it to #1 this weekend.  Liam Neeson has become pretty popular over the last few years with people of all ages – and this movie looks like it will satisfy both parties.  Did I mention he’ has tapped glass on his knuckles so he can punch some wolves in the face?

Man on a LedgeRT (22%) – Trailer

I’m not a fan of anyone in this movie, and it looks boring as hell on top of that.  Needs some wolves if you ask me.

One for the MoneyRT (0%) – Trailer

Does anyone like Katherine Heigl?  She’s her own worst enemy and it’s that time again for her to take her bumps as another movie she stars in bombs.  Where did all the hate start?  Probably when she said her writers on Grey’s Anatomy sucked [source].  Next time star in a movie with angry wolves.

*In 2009 PETA euthanized 2,301 dogs and cats — 97 percent of those brought in — and adopted only eight, according to Virginia state figures [source].  On their own site, PETA advises euthanizing pets, even healthy ones, as opposed to finding them a new home [seriously].  PETA is very vocal and has a lot of people interested due to their naked celebrities on posters campaign.  The trouble is the celebrities that do these ads can’t read too well or think for themselves.  Now I’m going to go watch Liam Neeson beat up some computer-generated wolves.*

Joe Carnahan’s The Grey opens this weekend, and they have a new red-band trailer for one more promotional push.  If you ask me, the seats were full after the first trailer (see above image).  It’s going to be violent and awesome, it’s currently holding a 79% fresh and Ebert awarded it 3.5/4 stars.  What is this movie doing being released in January?

A group of oil-rig roughnecks are left stranded on the sub-arctic tundra after their plane experiences a complete mechanical failure and crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. The survivors, battling mortal injuries, biting cold and ravenous hunger, are relentlessly hunted and pursued by a vicious pack of rogue wolves.

2012

2012 is here and so is another line up of movies, I won’t be the first to say this but, it’s going to be an incredible year for the movie business. If 2011 was the year of sequels, 2012 is the year of blockbusters. Big and small, I welcome them all. Each of us here at the City of Films put together a TOP 5 MOVIES TO SEE in 2012 along with other notable releases.

What are you warming up to see? Did we miss something? Shout out in the comments below.  And list:

Liam Neeson is bringing all sorts of badassery to The Grey, the movie looks interestingly stylish and above all, he’s really going to punch some Wolves in the face (which I only condone because he looks cold and could really make a sweet jacket out of them).

In the film Neeson’s character leads an unruly group of oil-rig roughnecks when their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling mortal injuries and merciless weather, the survivors have only a few days to escape the icy elements while battling mortal injuries, biting cold and ravenous hunger, are relentlessly hunted and pursued by a vicious pack of rogue wolves.

The movie will be released in theaters on January 27th 2012.  Watch the new trailer below:

So all you really need to know is the title of this post and the picture above, and you have an anticipated 2012 release.  Liam Neeson teams up with his A-Team director Joe Carnahan to bring us some more badassery (see Taken) in The Grey.  It’s safe to say the other players in the movie are going to die, leaving Neeson here to punch some Wolves in the face with bottles taped to his hand.
