It’s almost been 9 years since Arnold Schwarzenegger fired a gun (Terminator 3), but he’s back, along with all his playground buddies in the first trailer for The Expendables 2. There is no plot in here, just what some may call the best action movie roster of all time: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The film will get a August 17 release next year, in the mean time watch the teaser below and there’s a synopsis too if you care:

August 13th will see the greatest box office battle of the sexes in years. The Expendables or else Eat, Pray, Love? What are you going to see? A kind person (a man probably) made a fan made trailer to get the point across; if men don’t ban together that weekend…they may be doomed. Gentlemen, it’s time we get out a bit more. Here is a new trailer for THE EXPENDABLES, a film that might rival Rambo as one of the most badass flicks I have ever seen. In Rambo Sly rips out a man throat, what can he do in this movie? We do get to see Bruce Willis and Arnold in their cameo roles, but what about Stallone? He came back from the “where is he?” list of stars to stun the world with Rocky Balboa and Rambo, and now what looks to be a return to 80’s action grace, GO SLY! So here we are with a new year and a new line up of movies to enjoy. Did you hear that 2009’s box office beat the sales of DVD and Blu-ray? Really, for true life it did. We made a Movies You Should Have Seen In 2009 so it’s no wonder we have put together a list of Movies To See In 2010. See that lens flare on the title banner? I did that. Why? Because a trailer this kick ass deserves it. Well it’s more of a promo…tromo? Make it happen. In this tromo we get a great look at what kind of action we are in for. We get to see Drago looking more and more like Viggo. Jet Li even tosses in some borderline racist comments. I didn’t see any Stone Cold Stunners though. Eric Roberts has some evil looking scenes in the movie much like he did in The Dark Knight; remember when Rourke called him out and told people to hire him? Classic. Seriously look at this cast, this must be for getting Rocky and Rambo right after so many years. At 63 Stallone shows no signs of slowing down, he is giving us another Rambo and that long awaited Edgar Allan Poe movie might happen. Keep them coming Sly, for evermore.
I’m not talking about those tall stiff “collectors” items that you can’t even take out of the box. I’m talking about the figures that between the ages of about 5-15 (just me?) you could actually play with. I would toss these things around until I had blisters on ma fingers I would. Giving them voices, storylines and even red wash off paint if they got into a brawl. I would run home from school knowing that Batman was itching to get out of the toy box and clean up the streets (my book shelves). Writer / Director Kevin Smith in an exlusive interview discusses his upcoming film “A Couple Of Cops”, set to roll with stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Smith talks about Mirmax, selling out and more. I like this guy just about 30% of the time, so here is something positive while he has it.
So for the past few months I have been rolling my eyes at this talk about the greatest action movie ever to be created, written, and directed by Sylvester Stallone, but it turns out…this thing is real. The Expendables. Okay I guess we all knew it was a few weeks back but I was too lazy to post anything.
Today comes this following news: Mickey Rourke! The recently resuscitated actor, riding THE WRESTLER (Mayors top pick for 2008? Find out soon), has joined Sly’s flick as “an unscrupulous arms dealer who becomes the go-to guy for a group of mercenaries planning to topple a South American dictator.”
The project already has Stallone Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Forest Whitaker, Robert Knepper, Juliana Paes, and possibly Sir Ben Kingsley. Plus a lead female role remains as yet unfilled.
Stallone brought Rourke on board his 2000 remake of GET CARTER, and Rourke just worked with Statham on the remake of the French thriller 13 TZAMETI. I heard Sandra Bullock turned down a role which would have been some Demolition Man reunion, but I guess shes too busy with better things…Jean-Claude Van Damme reportedly passed on the project too, for JCVD he can be forgiven. Release Date: TBA.
