I don’t want to stretch out this news post more than it needs to be. So get this, Peter Jackson says he’ll make the sequel to 2011′s The Adventures of Tintin after he finishes The Hobbit trilogy.

The first TinTin (known better as The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn outside North America) produced by Jackon and directed by Steven Spielberg did well with critics and audiences, but more importantly didn’t lose money. It’s always been decided that Jackson would take the helm for the sequel with Spielberg taking on the producer role.

Jackson recently provided this update on Tintin (via CS) at the premiere of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug:

“As soon as I’m free of The Hobbit, I’ll be going back into doing Tintin. It was held up by The Hobbit, but we have every intention of doing another Tintin movie and it’s just waiting on me to be done with these Hobbit movies.”

Steven Spielberg Gives TINTIN Sequel Update

The Adventures of Tintin was a huge hit around the world ($371M) securing what was was always the plan if it were, that a sequel will be made.

Also in the plan was for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson to take turns directing the films while the other produced.  Spielberg recently gave an update to Total Film on the sequel, confirming that the plan is for Jackson to shoot the sequel this summer after he finishes The Hobbit.

“Peter [Jackson]’s doing it. I wanted to do it, but Peter has to because we made a deal. I said, ‘I’ll direct the first one, you direct the second one.’ And Peter, of course, is going to do it right after he finishes photography on The Hobbit. He’ll go right into the 31, 21 days of performance capture.”

As to what story from Tintin they will be going with this time, (some are thinking The Calculus Affair), Spielberg said:

“We haven’t decided that yet. She’s throwing a monkey wrench into your story! It could be that. I like The Calculus Affair. So it could be. We have completed a story outline now. We have a writer on it. I’m just not declaring what it is. It will be more than one book, but no more than two.”

Our very own artist Kevin told me last week that he enjoyed Tintin, and from what others are saying, most were also pleasantly surprised.  All we can do it wait on more details on the sequel, stay tuned.
