GOD BLESS AMERICA (2011)

Starring: Joel Murray, Tara Lynne Barr
Written by: Bobcat Goldthwait
Release Date: VOD April 6th, limited theaters May 11th
Frank has had enough of the downward spiral of American culture. Divorced, recently fired, and possibly terminally ill, Frank truly has nothing left to live for. He buys a gun and decides to take out his frustration on the cruelest, stupidest, most intolerant people he can imagine. [Trailer]
God Bless America is a wildly over-the-top black comedy for anyone who’s ever been angry at the state of our culture. If you liked Falling Down or Natural Born Killers, you get the best of both films with Bobcat Goldwait’s latest. He brought us World’s Greatest Dad which also touched on the world of celebrity, but we get something very different here. I should mention this is from the same man who brought us Sleeping Dogs Lie, a movie about a woman who gives a blowjob to her dog. So please note what you’re getting into here.
Bobcat Goldthwait has become an acclaimed writer and director of black comedies like World’s Greatest Dad [my review] and God Bless America looks to be his best yet. Watch the red-band trailer below to see for yourself.
It’s like a fun version of Natural Born Killers where instead of some innocent folks getting killed, we have the likes of a double-parking jerk and a spoiled rich kid.
Here’s the synopsis for God Bless America:
Loveless, jobless and possibly terminally ill, Frank has had enough of the downward spiral of America. With nothing left to lose, Frank takes his gun and decides to off the stupidest, cruelest and most repellent members of society with an unusual accomplice: 16-year-old Roxy, who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement.
God Bless America will be released on VOD on April 6 before a limited theatrical run beginning on May 11. Watch the trailer below:
