In what very well may be one of the best movies of the year, Ryan Gosling enters the action game and leaves an impression.  That being said, I’ve been told he doesn’t even say a whole lot in this movie; it’s all in his swagger.  Who knew?  I watched Blue Valentine the other day, I have to admit, I didn’t take him too seriously before as an actor and that movie brought about a whole new appreciation for the man.  Check it out and go see Drive this weekend, it’s going to be awesome.

I didn’t think too many film critics would warm up to a remake of one of Dustin Hoffman’s best performances, and the reviews reveal that.  To me it looked like it could be a decent up-to-date thriller with solid performances, but I’ll be waiting for a home release.  Kate Bosworth turns me off too, just saying.

I don’t want to.

The Lion King (In 3D)  – IMDBRT (89%)

Probably not worth it considering the DVD/Blu-ray comes out in a month.  Although, I wouldn’t mind belting out Hakuna Matata in the theater and annoying everyone…during a death scene of course.

OTHER:

Real Time with Bill Maher – The show returns from a break with Dexter Filkins, Louis C.k., Keith Olberman, Rich Galen and Jennifer Donahue.

The ‘Straw Dogs’ Ramake Has a Creepy Trailer

straw dogs

Sam Peckinpah‘s Straw Dogs is a movie that has stayed with me in a very unsettling way.  I saw it years ago and still can’t look at Dustin Hoffman the same way.  His performance was noteworthy for many reasons, but simply put it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.  Rod Lurie‘s remake has a trailer which puts a screenwriter (James Marsden) and his wife (Kate Bosworth) in the deep South, her hometown.
