sin-city-a-dame-to-kill-forJoseph Gordon-Levitt shows no sign of slowing down after a stellar 2012, he will be joining the Sin City sequel A Dame To Kill For.  According to Empire, he’s got a lead role in Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s graphic novel sequel to the amazing Sin City.  He will play Johnny, an ultra-smooth character that didn’t appear in the novels, but was created specifically for the film.

JGL said in a press release “I love how the first movie uses VFX, not to make fake things look real, but to create a heightened world unburdened by the look and feel of reality.” Gordon-Levitt says in a statement. “Plus, nobody makes a badass like Mr Rodriguez.”

The cast for the film which is now shooting includes Jessica Alba, Jamie Chung, Alexa Vega, Rosario Dawson, Jamie King, Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Dennis Haysbert and Bruce Willis.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR was developed by Frank Miller based upon his graphic novel, with a screenplay by Miller and Academy Award winner William Monahan (The Departed).  The film will be released on October 4, 2013.

Book Review: Mike Hammer: Lady, Go Die!

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

Once in a great while comes a writer so perfectly matched for the genre he pens, it is outstanding. Responsible for writing the iconic Mike Hammer crime novels, Mickey Spillane was that writer. I, the Jury was the first of the Mike Hammer novels and was so popular it spawned a long running series as well as a few movie adaptations we won’t go into detail on. When Spillane passed away in 2006, the world lost a fantastic storyteller. Spillane’s voice through his craft, however, can still be heard. Thanks to several incomplete works, Max Allan Collins, and Titan Books – these stories, and Spillane’s voice can still be heard. Mike Hammer: Lady, Go Die! is one such novel.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR Production to Begins This Summer

sin-city

Remember 7 years ago when Sin City punched audiences in the face with how awesome it was?  Remember how almost every month since then there have been rumors about Sin City 2?  This may be hard to believe now but Sin City 2 is actually going to happen.  It was announced that Robert Rodriguez’s Quick Draw Productions and Alexander Rodnyansky’s AR Films will partner with Dimension Films on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, which is set to begin filming this summer.

Sin City, creator/co-director/writer Frank Miller said:  “The first Sin City knocked out audiences who had never seen anything like it before. Robert Rodriguez and I are going to shake things up and deliver a ferocious film experience that is going to go even further than the first.”

Rodriguez has said that the plot will involve three separate stories from Miller: A Dame to Kill For and two new ones that have yet to be announced. Casting is set to begin next week with much of the original cast returning.  Miller’s A Dame to Kill For features the character of Dwight, played by Clive Owen in the 2005 film, so let’s hope they get him back.

FYI: It’s about time.

Sin City 2 Could Shoot Later This Year Says Robert Rodriguez

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

sin-city-2Robert Rodriguez revealed at this year’s Comic-Con that Frank Miller has a script written for Sin City 2 and they could end up filming this year.  It looks closer to reality now after years of speculation with Rodriguez revealing the film now has its financing:

Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it’s the same thing for Machete 2. We’ve already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we’re finished writing we get to start the shoot.

I can’t say I have a lot of faith in this considering the sequel was talked about heavily as soon as the first Sin City was released to great reaction and a strong box office performance.  I loved Sin City and after all these years I have to admit they will have to pull out all the stops to gain my interest in a sequel.  Angelina Jolie in the fan made poster to the left might be something to consider Mr. Rodriguez.

Robert Rodriguez to Direct Sin City 2

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010
sin cityMr. Rodriguez made a recent announcement that he will be directing the long awaited Sin City 2 after the completion of Spy Kids 4 – wow, they made four of those?  Rodriguez said,Frank Miller and I are working on it. It’s slated to be the next one, but if the script is not ready, then we’ll have to move to the next one.” The script has apparently been done since 2007. It was Rodriguez that thought it still needed more work.  There is not much more revealed about Sin City 2 except for the fact that Rodriguez plans to bring back Bruce Willis‘ character, Hartigan, who was killed in the first Sin City.  “I wanna bring him back for Sin City because he’s so bad-ass.” Seems like a reasonable reason.  Sin City 2 is set to be released in 2012.
