rock-of-ages

New Line Cinema has released the first trailer for their upcoming rock and roll movie Rock of Ages starring Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Malin Ackerman, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise.  I’m not a fan of the music, but I like when Tom Cruise isn’t playing someone totally out of character (see Magnolia).  Also, check out Baldwins wig, it’s a classic.

Rock of Ages tells the story of small town girl Sherrie and city boy Drew, who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the heart-pounding hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake, and more.

The movie opens June 1, 2012. Watch the first trailer below:

box office

I wanted to put something in the way of “Hop skips to #1″ in the headline, but my soul wouldn’t forgive me.  Russell Brand‘s family comedy (he’s the cool bunny with layers of shirts on and headphones in his ears) Hop debuted at #1 with $38.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.  This figure just beats what Rango pulled in its opening weekend.

1. Hop – $38.1M
2. Source Code – $15M
3. Insidious – $13.2M
4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 $10.2M ($38M)
5. Limitless – $9.3M ($55.7M)

Jake Gyllenhaal continues to try and open a movie big with the thriller Source Code; the film debuted at #2 with $15.1 million. Insidious opened at # 3 with $13.5 million. The previous weekend’s top movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, fell to #4 with $10.2 million, raising its total to $38.4 million, let the franchise continue.

Russell BrandThe trailer for Jason Winer‘s (Modern Family) remake of Arthur is finally here.  I’m a big fan of Russell Brand and can’t wait to see him in this starring role that suits him so well.  The trailer I noticed shows off one thing very well, the soundtrack. “Rebel Rebel”, “All Right Now”, and “Under Pressure” are all here, the movie clearly spared no expense to capture the magic the original had, let’s hope anyways.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Arthur also stars Jennifer Garner, Helen Mirren, Nick Nolte, and Luis Guzman. It opens April 8th.

Synopsis: Irresponsible charmer Arthur Bach has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of lifelong nanny Hobson to keep him out of trouble. Now he faces his biggest challenge — choosing between an arranged marriage that will ensure his lavish lifestyle or an uncertain future with the one thing money can’t buy, Naomi, the only woman he has ever loved. With Naomi’s inspiration and some unconventional help from Hobson, Arthur will take the most expensive risk of his life and finally learn what it means to become a man. (more…)

get him to the greek trailer & poster

Universal sent us the trailer for GET HIM TO THE GREEK, see it after the jump.  Greek, opening June 4th, reunites Jonah Hill and Russell Brand with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller in the story of a record company intern with two days to drag an uncooperative rock legend to Hollywood for a comeback concert.  It’s being called a spin-off of Sarah Marshall, as Brand does indeed reprise his fantastic role as Aldous Snow.  The trailer is pretty sweet, I am not sure if it will live up to the greatness that was Forgetting Sarah Marshall; but I have heard many good things about Brand’s roll and the script.  Check it out June 4th.

Favorite FSM quote: Matthew: I have a question for you real quick. What did you think of my demo? Did you get it? Aldous Snow: I was gonna listen to that, but then, um, I just carried on living my life.
