sin-city-2Robert Rodriguez revealed at this year’s Comic-Con that Frank Miller has a script written for Sin City 2 and they could end up filming this year.  It looks closer to reality now after years of speculation with Rodriguez revealing the film now has its financing:

Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it’s the same thing for Machete 2. We’ve already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we’re finished writing we get to start the shoot.

I can’t say I have a lot of faith in this considering the sequel was talked about heavily as soon as the first Sin City was released to great reaction and a strong box office performance.  I loved Sin City and after all these years I have to admit they will have to pull out all the stops to gain my interest in a sequel.  Angelina Jolie in the fan made poster to the left might be something to consider Mr. Rodriguez.

Robert Rodriguez is a talented filmmaker, and just when you think he’s returning to the mature side of his movie making abilities (Sin City, Planet Terror,Machete), he gives another go at making movies for his kids. So here we have the trailer for Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, the fourth installment in the series of colorful and harmless movies aimed at kids, but really could be fun for anyone I imagine.  Ricky Gervais voices a robot dog, that’s something right?

Spy Kids: All the Time in the World hits on August 19, here’s the trailer that might get taken down by The Weinstein Company at any moment. (more…)

Robert Rodriguez to Direct Sin City 2

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010
sin cityMr. Rodriguez made a recent announcement that he will be directing the long awaited Sin City 2 after the completion of Spy Kids 4 – wow, they made four of those?  Rodriguez said,Frank Miller and I are working on it. It’s slated to be the next one, but if the script is not ready, then we’ll have to move to the next one.” The script has apparently been done since 2007. It was Rodriguez that thought it still needed more work.  There is not much more revealed about Sin City 2 except for the fact that Rodriguez plans to bring back Bruce Willis‘ character, Hartigan, who was killed in the first Sin City.  “I wanna bring him back for Sin City because he’s so bad-ass.” Seems like a reasonable reason.  Sin City 2 is set to be released in 2012.

Robert Rodriguez has released a special Cinco de Mayo message to Arizona in the form of the new trailer for his movie Machete.  The film stars Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, Steven Seagal and Jessica Alba.

The trailer features a special “Cinco De Mayo message for Arizona”, a political story which has been making headlines recently, but is actually a big part of this film which was shot a year ago.  Rodriguez wrote the script and co-directed the movie with his longtime editor Ethan Maniquis. The action-exploitation film follows Danny Trejo as a badass Mexican out to mess with The Man. The film opens September 3rd 2010. (more…)

VHS Rewinder

Almost a Batmobile.

Brought to you by: The VHS Tape Rewinder.
I’ll admit that I never understood the need for these things as a kid, seemed like a cash grab to me.  I would later discover that these noisy little boxes were actually putting years of life back on my VCR.

VCR’s were believed to make kinks in the tapes which could mess with playback after several rewinds. The rewinder would rewind smoother and faster. In addition, it would take the wear and tear away from the VCR, and protect the heads of the VCR.  The worst thing you can do to a VCR is rewind a tape, or keep a take on pause (worse for the tape).

These rewinders are not being made any more due to the introduction of the DVD, obviously.

Hobo With A Shotgun Shoots Next Week

Hobo With A Shotgun

I have mentioned it a few times on the site that I will forever remember the travesty that was Grindhouse. The film itself was genius and fantastic fun, but nothing worked for them. The film never got the promotion it needed, most people who went to saw it didn’t “get it” and some of them even left after the first feature, seriously!

In 2007 there was a contest at SXSW that invited filmmakers to create their own fake Grindhouse-style movie trailers to go along the Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez film Grindhouse. The winner was Hobo with a Shotgun, from Nova Scotia director Jason Eisener.  Hobo with a Shotgun was attached to Canadian prints of Grindhouse (see it below) and now the feature version of his Grindhouse trailer is about to begin production and in the lead role, Rutger Hauer.  I really think the downfall of Grindhouse was that it went over people’s heads. And I trust Machete and now Hobo with a Shotgun will do the same, they may work better on the home market if you ask me.

Here’s the original Hobo with a Shotgun trailer (NSFW). (more…)

sin city 2 and spidey 4

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Spider Man 4 I could do without, at least for ten years or so.  SM3 was pure piss and I will never speak of it again.  Sin City on the other hand was one of the best movies I have ever seen, so when talk of the 2nd one comes up as do my ears.  In what might be a throw-away comment from Rosario Dawson she mentioned to MTV:

“Yeah, I talked to Robert [Rodriguez] and Frank [Miller]…They actually just finished the script for ‘Sin City 2′ a few months ago.”

mmad
Michael Madsen, bad ass.  Also the father in Free Willy.

Of course, this whole thing has been going on for ages, and who knows if Mickey Rourke will want to come back being a star again and all.  Moving on, Sam Raimi was at SXSW this past weekend and MTV got Raimi to dish on all things SPIDER-MAN 4:

“Right now we’re just working on the story for SPIDER-MAN 4 just that one film…”
“I do have a pretty good idea, but I’m just not a liberty to say yet.”

Raimi repeatedly used the phrase “villain or villains” in his conversations as to not even give away whether there’d be one or two.  Great, another orgy of special effect and next to no dialogue.  Slow clap.

“I can’t imagine making a SPIDER-MAN movie without Kirsten…Of course it can be done…” And should be by my count, she sucks.  To read more from Raimi on SPIDER-MAN 4, click here to head to MTV.
