We last mentioned Rob Zombie‘s next movie, The Lords of Salem, last September where he said he wanted to break away “from anything related to pre-existing material” (Halloween movies are over for him). So he’s been working on The Lords of Salem which Zombie says: There were twenty people that everyone knows about – obviously all innocent – executed as witches in Salem. The basic premise of the film is that there were a further four who actually were witches, who were killed secretly, and vowed one day to return to wreak havoc on Salem’s descendants. That’s when the movie jumps ahead to the present day and things start to go wrong. [Pic via Rob Zombie]
Deadline said Zombie was attracted to the setup by an offer of autonomy — he’s given “total control” over script, casting and final cut; unlike working with the Weinstein’s and Dimension. Zombie shares The Shining as an example of a slow-burn film that might not get made by a studio now, which suggests that he might go for a longer, more deliberately paced film while making The Lords of Salem. Can’t wait.

I enjoyed
I miss the days when movie theaters would have the nerve to rape our minds with ultra violent or borderline pornographic movies. Midnights showings where all the weirdos and kids with fake ID’s came out to play. Alas those days are over, so we are forced to watch such things by hiding in our mother’s basement by the pale moonlight with a bucket of popcorn and a Fresca. Just me? Well something tells me I won’t be alone when Anchor Bay brings us Rob Zombies first animated feature
