New Line Reboots ‘Mortal Kombat’ Back To The Big Screen

It looks like that Mortal Kombat short film and subsequent internet webisodes (watch all of them here on COF) got people talking about bringing the franchise back to the big screen says Deadline. It’s been confirmed that New Line Cinema will officially bring  Mortal Kombat back to the big screen and it will be directed by none-other than MK savior Kevin Tancharoen and written by Oren Uziel. These are the two that brought us the awesome webisodes.

There’s nothing on a plot or release date yet, so stay tuned for more.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy is a web series created by Kevin Tancharoen that debuted on Machinima.com’s YouTube channel back in April of this year.  If you have played the video game franchise to which the show is based then you already know it’s an adaptation of that universe and the characters within.

The show’s premise originated with director Kevin Tancharoen’s short film entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth [watch it below] which he eventually submitted to Warner Bros. WB declined to back a film but did give the go-ahead to shoot the web series.  Mortal Kombat: Legacy tells the background stories of several characters from the franchise, it reveals their reasons for participating in the upcoming tenth Mortal Kombat tournament (based on the first game).  So will all 9 episodes released that’s a wrap, for now.  All the Mortal Kombat: Legacy episodes have posted here for your viewing.
