The City of Films is proud to present some never before heard audio bits that never made it to The City of Films Show podcast. Whether it was due to time constraints or just overall taste, the following audio was cut and left on the editing room floor, until now.  We are doing our best to make Monday’s special as our City Strip artist is taking a break, this would be my contribution.  Ryan did an amazing job last week with his own comic, check it out here.

Ricky Gervais

So Ricky Gervais Week is over, until next year right?  Well no, because I don’t think a week goes past here in the City of Films where we don’t post some bit of news from the world of Ricky, so rejoice!  Please visit Ricky’s honest and hilarious blog daily for updates otherwise.  Below I have compiled most if not all the top stories we have on Gervais, it might take up most of your afternoon if you’re not careful: (more…)

Ricky Gervais

RICKY GERVAIS WEEK is over, gutted.  I hope you had fun catching up with Ricky Gervais and the gang as much as I have.  Please visit Ricky’s honest and hilarious blog daily for updates.  The City of Films has dedicated a lot of time to Gervais, and it never gets boring.  There are many resources out there to get your Ricky fix, may I recommend a few?  The Office, Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show (podcast and HBO series), Ghost Town and Cemetery Junction.  Need more?  He was in an episode of Alias you could watch.

Ricky Gervais is an idol of mine, someone I look up to and who inspires me.  He is one of the smartest people I have come across in a long time – I would love to one day just have a chat with him about life.  The man has an extensive knowledge of the world whose ideas I find often reflect my own, it’s a great feeling.  As a fan I can only do my best to share with you the reasons that you too should appreciate the work of Ricky Gervais, his sense of humor and honesty above are often hard to come by with “celebrities”.  He makes it look easy.

He created, wrote, directed and starred in The Office, Extras.  Guest starred in Alias and 24.  Wrote and starred in The Simpson.  Lent his voice to GTA 4, SpongeBob and popped up in both Night at the Museum films and Stardust with Robert De Niro (his hero).  He starred in Ghost Town, made his directorial debut with The Invention of lying.  He finished his work on his collaboration with long time friend Stephen Merchant on their film Cemetery Junction – these just off the top of my head.  He makes his rounds doesn’t he?  Enjoy…

hbo wants gervais

Monday, May 18th, 2009

rickygervaisshow4HBO has ordered thirteen episodes of a new animated show that will be based on Ricky Gervais’s popular podcast. Variety says:

The Ricky Gervais Show features Gervais and his longtime collaborator Stephen Merchant (The Office, Extras) and revolves around the world of their unusual friend, Karl Pilkington. “They find him to be the funniest person in the world,” MRC’s Modi Wiczyk said. “Ricky says Karl is like crack to him.” According to Gervais and Merchant, “Karl is a man who believes that a sea lion is a cross between a fish and a dog.”

Fans even began animating some of Pilkington’s musings themselves, uploading the shorts to the Internet. It was Wildbrain development VP Lisa Ullmann who first put the idea of an animated version in Gervais’ head. The Show will utilize the audio from the “Gervais” podcasts and open each week with the animated version of the trio. Then, once Pilkington begins telling one of his unusual stories, the animation will delve into those worlds.

Genius. Go get all the podcasts (the ones at the top of the charts on iTunes) right now. There is a little tast below. All they do is talk and somehow it comes out as the best stuff ever. Try listening to this on a bus and not look wierd. True story.

the ricky gervais show season 5

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

If you’re a fan of British comedian Ricky Gervais, then odds are by now you’ve also heard of his podcast The Ricky Gervais Show, which is the most downloaded podcast on the internet ever. Together with his writing partner Stephen Merchant, they sit down with their eccentric pal Karl Pilkington to talk about everything and nothing all at once. If you’re not a fan of dry, British humour, this probably isn’t for you.

The good news is that the trio have decided to return for one final season of the show . They have recorded four new episodes, each a half-hour in length, that will be available on iTunes on September 16th for £2.99
