Arguably the best looking Pixar movie, Andrew Stanton‘s Finding Nemo is getting the 3D re-release treatment this year. It’s will be released September 14th and we have a trailer that will likely be attached to Beauty and the Beast 3D this weekend.

With the amount of detail and depth in Nemo this could be an enjoyable viewing experience. Saying that, I don’t know how much time was spent on the transfer, and I don’t think every movie that made some wallet years ago has to be released again. Have you seen any 3D re-releases (Lion King)? Will you see Nemo?

Watch the trailer below:

Pixar’s The Brave is about a young princess named Merida (Kelly Macdonald of Boardwalk Empire) who is determined to make her own path in life; she defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse. Like any Pixar movie, we have some delightful visuals to see; this time Scotland is our place of wonder.

Watch the trailer below, the film also features the voices of Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Robbie Coltrane, and Julie Walters.

The Incredibles was released 7 years ago and grossed over $600M, the fact that there hasn’t been a sequel yet is shocking to me. We can thank the Disney-Pixar people for that, with them not rushing to make more money in a quick sequel we might be better off in the long run. Word from the director/writer of the original Brad Bird is that he welcomes the idea of a sequel, as long as the story is there.

Brad Bird is starting to promote his first live action movie Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and was asked about a possible Incredibles sequel and his answer is:

Movies.com talked to Bird, who said that he hasn’t really been pursuing a story for The Incredibles 2, but is gathering ideas and is open to the possibility:

I think the reason it hasn’t [happened] yet is because the studio would like me to do it, if there were another Incredibles. And I’ve told them that I’m not really friendly to have someone else take away my child. I would like to think that I have several good ideas that could be incorporated into a next Incredibles, but I don’t have a whole movie yet, and the last thing I want to do is do it just because it would open big, or something like that.

I want to do it because I have something that will be as good or better than the original. Toy Story 2 was, to me, a perfect sequel, because it absolutely respected the first film but found new places to go without selling out its characters. So if I could come up with an idea that is to Incredibles that Toy Story 2 is to Toy Story, I would do it in a second. [movies.com]

I’ve always said that about Toy Story; it’s the best trilogy because each sequel is equal to or better than the original. That’s the only way they should do it and I hope Brad Bird returns when he’s good and ready to commit to a great story.

The Lion King 3D has surprised a lot of people (myself included) with the success it has been getting at the box office (over $80M domestic). So Disney noticed too and has announced limited theatrical engagements for four of its classic films for the first time in 3D:

Beauty and the Beast – January 13, 2012

Finding Nemo – September 14, 2012

Monsters, Inc. – January 18, 2013 (the prequel Monsters University opens in theaters in Disney Digital 3D on June 21, 2013)

The Little Mermaid – September 13, 2013

These are all good movies, classics really – and yes it would be nice to see them on the big screen again, but with 3D involved I can’t quite say I approve fully. Blu-ray releases in the mean time will be just fine for me.

Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Box Office = $380.4 million worldwide.

Finding Nemo won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Box Office = $867.6 million worldwide.

Monsters, Inc. made history with 11 million DVD/VHS copies being sold during its first week of release. It won an Academy Award for Best Song. Box Office = $526.9 million worldwide.

The Little Mermaid won two Academy Awards (Best Original Score, Best Song). Box Office =$228.9 million worldwide.

Read the synopsis and see the trailer we posted in June below:

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave,” a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
