Our Favorite Sci Fi Movies That Don't Start With Star

Science Fiction has always played a pivotal role in cinema. It is a means by which we can look into the future and speculate as to what “could be”. Our only limit is our imaginations, and our imaginations provide an infinite number of possibilities. With that being said there have been some incredible films that allow us to look forward and wonder, “what if?”. Whether it is the existence of extra terrestrials or humankind’s self destructive nature – these possibilities are fascinating.

While it is easy to point to the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises because they are so iconic, we decided that would be too easy. Below are our favorite Science Fiction films that do not begin with the word “Star”. Did we miss something? Share your favorite with us on Facebook, Twitter, or in the comments below!

Duncan Jones to Direct Ian Fleming Biopic

Monday, May 21st, 2012

There is a lot of James Bond happening this year to celebrate its 50th Anniversary.  We showed you the awesome Blu-ray collection, not to mention Skyfall comes out this fall.  Now the man behind it all is getting the star treatment too.  It was announced that Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) has signed on to direct an “action-packed” story of James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Jones said:

Source Code Being Adapted as TV Series for CBS

Friday, September 16th, 2011

Producer Mark Gordon has plans to adapt the Duncan Jones directed sci-fi film Source Code into a TV series for CBS.  Jones’ movie was entertaining enough, for me it didn’t hit the heights of Moon but continued to show that he’s a solid director whose future work is going to have some high expectations.

According to THR, “like the film on which it is based, the action/procedural follows three former federal agents who are part of a top-secret program. Each week, they’ll use “Source Code” technology to jump into the consciousness of people involved in tragic events”.  This would make for an entertaining show for sure, depending on budget I imagine.  Gordon (Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds) and Steve Maeda (Lost) has been brought on to write it.

Christopher Nolan’s List Of Potential Superman Directors

Friday, September 24th, 2010

supermanThere are little to no facts concerning Christopher Nolan’s Superman film, but we now have an idea of what direction Nolan is going with when news broke of the five directors that were on Nolan’s short list to potentially direct the film.

Noticeably absent is his own flesh and blood Jonathan who had been rumoured to be in the running.  Deadline’s Mike Fleming broke the news, and according to him, the directors currently being looked at are:

Tony Scott (Unstoppable, The Taking of Pelham 123)
Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield)
Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Clash of the Titans 2 [upcoming])
Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code)
Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch)

Nolan has already started meeting with directors and will submit his choice to Warner Brothers in the next few weeks.  I think it would be nice to see Jones take a stab at it, he seems like he would be more restrained with the material, anyone see what he did with Moon?  Amazing.  We shall hear back soon, stay tuned.
