It has kept me up at night for years, and after what now must be around 100 viewings, I would still wonder how the heck a high school kid and a mad scientist came to be best of friends.  Back to the Future co-writer Bob Gale came across this question at Mental Floss and gave us the actual origin story, I can rest now:

“For years, Marty was told that Doc Brown was dangerous, a crackpot, a lunatic. So, being a red-blooded American teenage boy, age 13 or 14, he decided to find out just why this guy was so dangerous. Marty snuck into Doc’s lab, and was fascinated by all the cool stuff that was there. When Doc found him there, he was delighted to find that Marty thought he was cool and accepted him for what he was. Both of them were the black sheep in their respective environments. Doc gave Marty a part-time job to help with experiments, tend to the lab, tend to the dog, etc.  And that’s the origin of their relationship.”

It’s solved!  What do we do now?  Watch BTTF again of course.

ComingSoon.net posted several clips of when Universal Studios Home Entertainment reunited the cast and filmmakers of the Academy Award-winning “Back to the Future” franchise on October 25th 2010, just in time for its landmark 25th Anniversary.  The Blu-ray hit stores today, I will post a review later this week when I’m done watching them all and playing with my BTTF toys again.

In the first clip, Michael J. Fox talks about how has this film changed his life.

GameTrailers has put up a couple behind-the-scenes clips of Telltale Games‘ upcoming Back to the Future game, including a look at the new guy they got to voice Marty McFly; he sounds like a young Michael J. Fox.  Great casting here, there is also a clip of Christopher Lloyd commenting on his input – good to see him as Doc once more, and the game’s creative staff setting up the premise of Telltale’s game. back to the future

Twenty five years after the release of Back to the Future, co-stars Michael J. Fox and Lea Thompson hang out for their Entertainment Weekly photo-shoot with the DeLorean time machine, and discuss their memories of shooting the film.  I didn’t like I could love this movie anymore than I do today, I’m going to marathon the hell out of those upcoming Blu-rays.  Video after the jump: (more…)

eric stoltz
As you may or may not know, Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty McFly in Back to the Future.  Then after five weeks of filming, Robert Zemeckis decided to replace Stoltz with Michael J. Fox and Stoltz’ footage has since become well sought after.

The Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy Blu-ray will be available to own on October 26th.  It will contain some more insight into the casting decisions and this infamous change.  Here is a clip: (more…)

A Look At The New Back To The Future Video Game

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

In June, it was announced that Telltale Games was developing a series of new episodic video games based off the Jurassic Park and Back to the Future movie franchises, in a deal with NBC Universal. We have a couple new updates, including our first look at concept art for the Back to the Future game.

back to the future

I will be the first one to defend BTTF in everything it does, but I have no faith in this whatsoever.  It’s coming out this winter and we have no screen shots or real news about it?  Me thinks it’s going to be cheaply produced and just using voices and props from a film isn’t enough to satisfy any serious gamer or movie lover.  I have a Wii and PS3 and I can’t imagine either systems showing me a well made Back to the Future game, and I hate myself for thinking it.

I can see however this being a small downloadable game, Telltale Games is kind of known for that (Monkey’s Island and Sam & Max games. They have produced games based on Wallace & Gromit, Homestar Runner and Tales of Monkey Island.)

What we know so far:

  • The game will include characters Marty McFly and Doc Brown.
  • Christopher Lloyd will also provide his voice for the games.
  • Back to the Future series screenwriter Bob Gale is working with the game developers on the story
  • They are planning five “episodes”.
  • It will be set in the fictional California setting of Hill Valley, and will explore 1985 and additional time periods.
