skyfall

2012 is the 50th anniversary of the Bond film series, so there’s going to be a lot going on I’m sure.  One thing they did was turn 007.com into the Skyfall website.  There is a short video (posted below) to welcome you that shows off some credit sequence making for the film.

Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Skyfall is shooting now with director Sam Mendes and the cast of Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Judi Dench, Albert Finney, Berenice Malohe and Naomie Harris.  The 23rd Bond film will be released on November 9th.  Until then stay on the official facebook page and 007.com for more.

cabin

The Cabin in the Woods has been floating around for years; shot in early 2009 the horror film was directed by Cloverfield screenwriter Drew Goddard and co-written by Goddard and Joss Whedon.  I’ve heard it puts a spin on our typical “kids in the woods” movies and is basically worth watching.  So where you been Cabin?  Remember MGM was poor?  Yeah that’s why.

The Cabin in the Woods provides a new twist on the classic young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope.  A group of college kids spend a weekend at a mysterious cabin in the woods.

Lionsgate picked up the film a few months ago, and has given us a trailer for the movie, a little too revealing of a trailer if you ask me.  You didn’t?  So watch it below and leave me be:

Bond 23 In Theaters In November 2012

Friday, November 5th, 2010

James BondSo the story goes that MGM recently officially filed for bankruptcy and began restructuring so they could make movies again.  The first film is the long awaited The Hobbit that will begin filming in February.  News is coming in that James Bond, the other MGM franchise, will be headed back to the big screen in November 2012.

It would arrive one month before The Hobbit, the studio will be seeking a partner to fund the film and if all goes according to plan, future installments will arrive every two years.

That sounds pretty swell on paper, but most actors and creative people in Hollywood move on from a project once pronounced dead.  Sam Mendes who was once attached to direct might have a full schedule to keep him away, and more importantly, Daniel Craig is a busy man more and more each year it seems – he signed up for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo—and its two sequels—along with The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn and the thriller Dream House.  So we wait.
DYK: Bond films did arrive every two years up until the 90′s when longer gaps appeared with the longest one marked by the six-year distance between 1989′s License To Kill and 1995’s Goldeneye.

Bond 23 Pretty Much Dead

Richard Kiel

When asked to comment, Richard Kiel went mental.

According to AintItCool, MGM has permanently cancelled all development on the next James Bond movie as the studio continues to be in the poor house.  We reported a few months back that production was halted, so we can’t say we are surprised.  I don’t blame the economy, I blame the HobbitsesSam Mendes was to direct with Daniel Craig starring again, alas this may never happen.

It could be years before the secret agent with a licence to kill is back on the big screen.  I smell a reboot, James Bond Jr. style!

James Bond 23 Suspended Indefinitely

Monday, April 19th, 2010

James BondOf all the movies that should be ‘suspended’, I don’t really think James Bond would be found anywhere on the list.  It wasn’t long ago I was talking about Sam Mendes directing Bond 23 and the casting of the girls, now it’s all just a dream.  Franchise producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have issued a statement that production of the next installment has been delayed until further notice:

“Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on ‘Bond 23′ indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of Bond 23.”

Now who knows what we’ll end up with and when we’ll end up with it?  What happens with the cast and crew that now have to move on to other work?  This does not mean that the Bond franchise is dead. But without a money backer, nothing further will happen.  Well, now they have time to check out The District Attorney’s wish list for a proper Bond flick.
