21-jump-street

20th Century Fox is in the middle of adapting the classic TV series 21 Jump Street, starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as two cops who go undercover in a high school.  The cast for the film also includes  Ice Cube, Dave Franco, Brie Larsen, and Rob Riggle.  I would love the movie to be rated R for language, but I imagine they will save that for the “Jumpier Street Edition” DVD and make the theatrical film PG-13.  The current release date for the film is March 16, 2012

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. have released a new image from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This image gives us our first look at the dwarves Nori, Ori and Dori, played by Jed Brophy, Adam Brown and Mark Hadlow.  See it below:

New Line Cinema, Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM have announced the titles and release dates for Peter Jackson’s two-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. The first film will be titled The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and will be released on December 14, 2012. The second film, titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again, will be released the following year, on December 13, 2013.

The Hobbit is set in Middle-earth 60 years before Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and follows Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug.  Peter Jackson will direct both film parts consecutively in digital 3D.  The screenplays for the films are by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson.

Most of the needed cast from the LOTR Trilogy is returning; Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, Martin Freeman will take on the role of Bilbo Baggins, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel; Orlando Bloom as Legolas; Ian Holm as the elder Bilbo; Christopher Lee as Saruman; Hugo Weaving as Elrond; Elijah Wood as Frodo; and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

The Lord of the Rings was released on Blu-ray last year, but to some it wasn’t the real deal as it was the theatrical versions, not the extended.  Well calm down my nerds, Warner Bros. has announce The LOTR Extended editions on Blu-ray are coming and are ready for pre-order.  Hit the jump for a spec list. What history? This is Hollywood

I like action movies; I like huge battles, and epic encounters. What I don’t like is Hollywood’s attempt to ‘catch lightning in a bottle’ so to speak. The concept of medieval warfare in film has been a common combination for a great number of years. With the improvement of computer graphic technology, the creation of such movies has been greatly increased in the last decade. Unfortunately for us, this means that the number of copy-cat movies have drastically increased as well, leaving the whole genre rather watered down. To sum it up, I am getting bored of middle age ‘macho-ism’ and I want to know why that is. To figure that out we need to look back over the last decade and find out what it is that made us give up on a genre that had kept so many moviegoers coming back for more. (more…)
