CoF Weekend Preview: LAWLESS and the Debut of KFC

Friday, August 31st, 2012

Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview, here is a look at what’s opening this weekend.  Come back tomorrow to check out the debut of our new feature Katie’s Fun-Time Cinema and see you here Monday for the City Strip.  Editors Note: This weeks preview is early because I’m not feeling well.  Mom if you’re reading this, chicken noodle.

LawlessRT (64%) – Trailer

With a stellar cast that is sure to give top notch performances there isn’t a lot that could go wrong here.  Guy Pearce should always play a villain that much I do know.  It’s going to be bloody and violent, I’m there.

The PossessionRT (35%) – Trailer

I’ve heard mixed things, Ebert liked it a lot and he’s not easy to please with horror.  There’s a lesson in this movie I’d like to predict: don’t buy creepy old boxes from garage sales that have carved inscriptions in Hebrew.  Things just won’t turn out for the best.

The Oogieloves in The Big Balloon AdventureRT (33%) – Trailer

I don’t know what this is but it ‘stars’ Toni Braxton, Cloris Leachman, Christopher Lloyd, Chazz Palminteri, Cary Elwes, and Jaime Pressly.  It’s aimed at very young kids, so they will love to see all of these people on the big screen I’m sure.

Check back tomorrow for the debut of the City of Films new vlog series Katie’s Fun-Time Cinema.  It’s a short and sweet first episode that won’t take up much of your day at all, I promise.

Lawless is looking better and better, this new trailer pretty much hits it on the head with just what it’s going to offer moviegoers.  There’s blood, guns, and even a tar and feathering.  That’s the Depression-era for you, and the bootlegging Bondurant brothers are the ones you have to look out for.

Another Trailer for LAWLESS Starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, and Guy Pearce

Sunday, July 8th, 2012

tom-hardy-lawlessWhen it was going with its original title The Wettest County in the World I said Lawless was one of the movies to see in 2012.  Now with a title change and two nice trailers [first] behind it, it’s a must see movie of 2012.

Here’s the new trailer for director John Hillcoat’s crime drama starring Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy as brothers who become bootleggers in the South during Prohibition.  I didn’t mention him yet, but Guy Pearce looks like a force in this movie.  He can play the part of a prick pretty well can’t he?

The film also stars Jason Clarke, Jessica Chastain, Gary Oldman, and Dane DeHaan.

Lawless opens on August 31st.

Here is the first trailer for Lawless, a crime drama based on the novel The Wettest County in the World, it’s a great trailer with an even better cast, a must watch.  Directed by John Hillcoat (The Road) the film aims to take on prohibition and the bootleggers who gain from it, that can make for some great entertainment. Did I mention Shia LaBeouf , Tom Hardy, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce and Gary Oldman star?

Lawless opens wide on August 31st.

LAWLESS is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia. In this epic gangster tale, inspired by true-life tales of author Matt Bondurant’s family in his novel “The Wettest County in the World”, the loyalty of three brothers is put to the test against the backdrop of the nation’s most notorious crime wave.
