As you may have read on CoF a few weeks ago, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, still just titled Ninja Turtles, has been pushed back from a Christmas 2013 release date to May 16, 2014. You may also know how I feel about the whole thing (I defend the project here).
MTV recently spoke with Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman to talk about the film and he does a good job at selling this thing.
“From what I’ve seen, it’s easily the best ‘Turtle’ movie yet. We’re talking ‘Raid: Redemption’-style fight scenes; we’re talking about epic ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ sort of effects.”
When asked about the delay:
“A lot of people are worried we pushed the release date from December to May, but the 30th anniversary of the ‘Turtles’ is in May, so it worked out perfectly.”
Well to be fair, I think people wanted to know what was wrong with the script that production had to be shut down for so long. Also, I feel really old now. He was asked his opinion on the changes being made to his creation:
“I know that Michael [Bay] and his group really like that and that Paramount was supportive of that, so I think that it’s great. I grew up reading ‘Captain America’ and ‘The Avengers’ and all that stuff, and over the course of the comic book history, since ‘Avengers’ has been around, how many times has it been reinvented, reformatted, restructured, replatformed?”
So there you have it, we get some Ninja Turtles in…2 years. It would have been nice to have a holiday release with the winter season taking place in the film. The Turtles could walk around in Gore-Tex jackets again [see].
