TV Trailers: ‘An Idiot Abroad 2′ and ‘American Horror Story’

Here is your first glimpse of what Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant have in store for Karl Pilkington in series 2 of An Idiot Abroad, it’s going to be great. American Horror Story premieres on FX this October from creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. If Murphy’s track record means anything, a lot of people will hate this show and a lot of people will pretend they hate this show (see Glee).

Rise of the Planet of the Apes – IMDB – RT (80%) – CoF

The reviews are in for these Apes and they are pretty great considering this movie wasn’t on anyone’s radar pretty much until this past month. Andy Serkis is getting amazing praise for his powerful performance as Caser the Ape which begs the question: Could Andy Serkis win an Oscar for playing a CGI Ape? It’s a game changer. Also, this movie isn’t in 3D, have to respect that.

The Change-Up – IMDB – RT (19%) – CoF

Can a comedy be too crude? Seems so by what people are saying of The Change-Up. Leslie Mann plays a bitch yet again, she’s got range people and the movie was written by the gents who gave us The Hangover and the remake, The Hangover Part II.

Well no, because I don’t think a week goes past here in the City of Films where we don’t post some bit of news from the world of Ricky, so rejoice! On Monday July 9, 2001, if you tuned into the BBC, you witnessed history. You watched the pilot of The Office that was written and directed by Ricky Gervais and his long time collaborator Stephen Merchant. The show is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary and Gervais will turn 50 on June 25th.
To celebrate, we are dedicating this week to our hero of comedy with our second annual Ricky Gervais Week. We will hopefully be reminding fans of Gervais why they’re fans in the first place, while making new fans out of non-believers.

Ricky Gervais is perhaps the most influential British comedian ever; he’s certainly an influence in my life. His body of work covers just about everything an inspiring writer and or comedian could hope to achieve. From his days on XFM Radio to sell out stand up tours, Gervais is an icon.
The Office is the most critically acclaimed sitcom of all time becoming the first British comedy to win a Golden Globe. Ricky Gervais has won three Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmys, and seven BAFTAS.

His Fame tour became the fastest selling UK stand up show in history selling 100,000 tickets in 9 minutes.He performed his first US tour, which was recorded as an HBO Special at Madison Square Garden, the show went on to earn three Emmy nominations. In between all of this he finds time to write children’s books and write, direct and or star in feature films.

In 2005 Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington began the Guinness Record breaking podcast The Ricky Gervais Show, the number one selling audio book in the world since 2006 with over 300 million downloads. The podcast became an animated series for HBO. In 2006 he did a guest spot on an episode of The Simpsons which he also wrote. In January 2010 he was the first host of the Golden Globes since 1995 and returned in 2011 (there was some controversy with that).

This is just a modest gloss over of what Ricky Gervais has accomplished, this week we will be highlighting his career with a past, present and future retrospective. Welcome to Ricky Gervais Week.

Ricky Gervais’ An Idiot Abroad

An Idiot Abroad (formerly known as Karl Pilkington’s Seven Wonders Of The World) is an upcoming travel show on Sky1, that’s in the UK. Ricky Gervais posted on his blog the videos you see below. It’s the preview show and it’s pretty funny.

It features Karl Pilkington travelling the globe in order to visit each of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. During his travels Karl will visit Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Macchu Picchu in Peru, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Taj Mahal in India, Petra in Jordan, The Colosseum in Rome and the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant got the idea for this show after Karl had mentioned that he thought they were all a bit boring and had no interest in seeing them.

Karl Pilkington’s Seven Wonders Of The World

If you’re a fan of Ricky Gervais (and I know you are) you likely know who Karl Pilkington is. His round head has a new TV show coming as us, Karl Pilkington’s Seven Wonders Of The World. In the eight-part series, Gervais and Stephen Merchant will stay home in London monitoring their friend as he travels the globe. He will visit the Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer in Brazil, Petra in Jordan, Machu Picchu in Peru, Chichen Itza in Mexico, the Taj Mahal in India and the Great Pyramids of Egypt.

Sky TV says: Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are outraged that Karl has written off the Seven Wonders, claiming they’re all “a bit shit”. “They’ve thrown down the gauntlet to send him around the globe to force him out of his comfort zone. Stephen wants the experience to broaden Karl’s mind; Ricky wants Karl to hate every minute of it for his own amusement.”

Pilkington, who starred alongside Gervais and Merchant in their bestselling podcasts – said: “I can’t wait to get started. Not ‘cos I’m excited but ‘cos the sooner we start the sooner it will be over. The fact the nurse gave me an injection that protects me from dirty chimps put a dampener on the whole thing.”
