raven Here is the first trailer for The Raven from director James McTeigue (V for Vendetta). The film stars John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe, Luke Evans, Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.  Here’s a picture of Cusack as Poe and the office synopsis we posted not too long ago.

In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe joins forces with a young Baltimore detective to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders.  But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

The Raven arrives on March 9th, 2012, watch the trailer below:

It’s a slow news day, can you tell?  Yesterday we shows you the 25 Greatest Unscripted Scenes in Film, today we have 25 Actors Before They Were Famous.  I didn’t know Daniel Craig was in A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, I did however know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on Roseanne because I’ve watched the series enough times.  Leonardo DiCaprio was on an episode in a non speaking role too [see].

The first image of John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe (besides this one we showed in November last year) in The Raven which is set to  come out next year has hit the webs, as you see above.  The film is directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) and stars Cusack as Poe.

Synopsis: In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allen Poe joins forces with a young Baltimore detective to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders.  When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

Not too long ago we were telling you that John Cusack would be playing Edgar Allen Poe in the upcoming James McTeigue (V for Vendetta) directed film The Raven.  Well, we have a first look thanks to Gawker, and Cusack certainly pulls it off.

The project sounds dark and fun, as it’s a fictionalized story of the last five mysterious days of Edgar Allen Poe’s life, following Poe as he joins the hunt for a serial killer whose murders are inspired by his own stories. The film has been described as a cross between Edgar Allan Poe’s classic short story/poem The Raven and David Fincher‘s Se7en.

John Cusack As Edgar Allan Poe In The Raven

the raven

A true adaptation.

This news is a few days old, but I wanted to make sure that John Cusack wasn’t just tweeting drunk.  Yes it’s true, via Twitter, John Cusack let the world know that he will play Edgar Allan Poe in a film by James McTeigue (V For Vendetta).
Cusack’s tweet said: “officiali- will play edgar allan poe in fall-a-film called the raven, send any poe- gold – my way as i begin this journey into the abyss.”
Now don’t worry, this is a different version from what Sylvester Stallone has been talking about for years.  Here is what we know so far about this new version:  The Raven is a fictionalized account of the final five “mysterious” days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life. Apparently the famous writer joins the hunt for a serial killer whose murders are inspired by his stories.  McTeigue describes it “like the poem, The Raven, itself, crossed with Se7en.”
