It’s almost been 9 years since Arnold Schwarzenegger fired a gun (Terminator 3), but he’s back, along with all his playground buddies in the first trailer for The Expendables 2.  There is no plot in here, just what some may call the best action movie roster of all time: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The film will get a August 17 release next year, in the mean time watch the teaser below and there’s a synopsis too if you care:

safe

Directed by Boaz Yakin (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Safe stars Jason Statham who plays Luke Wright, an ex-cop from New York who witnesses some tough guys attempting to abduct a twelve-year-old girl. After rescuing her, Wright learns that the girl has memorized a code and that the Triads, Russian Mafia and corrupt NYC officials all want it. They’ll do anything to get it, but they’ll have to go through Wright first.

A lot of people are going to die in this one – that much is clear.  All these groups of thugs could have hundreds of guns, but this is Statham guys, give it up.  Safe is set to hit theaters on March 2, 2012. Watch the trailer below:

Red Band Trailer: The Mechanic

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

the mechanicThe Mechanic is director Simon West’s (Con Air, Tomb Raider) remake of the Charles Bronson thriller and stars Jason Statham and Ben Foster.  The film follows Statham as a veteran hitman who takes on an apprentice (Foster) who has a connection to one of the hitman’s previous victims. The trailer has some blood, nudity and above all looks like a lot of fun. Watch the trailer after the jump.  The Mechanic hits theaters on January 28th 2011.

Synopsis: Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is a ‘mechanic’ – an elite assassin with a unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets. It’s a job that requires professional perfection and total detachment, and Bishop is the best in the business. But when his mentor and close friend Harry (Donald Sutherland) is murdered, Bishop is anything but detached. His next assignment is self-imposed – he wants those responsible dead.  His mission grows complicated when Harry’s son Steve (Ben Foster) approaches him with the same vengeful goal and a determination to learn Bishop’s trade.   While in pursuit of their ultimate mark, deceptions threaten to surface and those hired to fix problems become problems themselves. expendables
See that lens flare on the title banner?  I did that.  Why?  Because a trailer this kick ass deserves it.  Well it’s more of a promo…tromo?  Make it happen.  In this tromo we get a great look at what kind of action we are in for.  We get to see Drago looking more and more like Viggo.  Jet Li even tosses in some borderline racist comments.  I didn’t see any Stone Cold Stunners though.  Eric Roberts has some evil looking scenes in the movie much like he did in The Dark Knight; remember when Rourke called him out and told people to hire him?  Classic.  Seriously look at this cast, this must be for getting Rocky and Rambo right after so many years.  At 63 Stallone shows no signs of slowing down, he is giving us another Rambo and that long awaited Edgar Allan Poe movie might happen.  Keep them coming Sly, for evermore.

jason statham is homophobic

Monday, July 6th, 2009

jasonstathamThat headline would almost be liable enough for an ass kicking if it wasn’t true about his character in the upcoming movie BLITZGTBP says that Statham will play a homophobic sociopath in an adaptation of the Ken Bruen novel of the same name.  Crime Spree Cinema has the official synopsis:

“The South East London police squad are down and out: Detective Sergeant Brant is in hot water for assaulting a police shrink, Chief Inspector Roberts’ wife has died in a horrific car accident, and WPC Falls is still figuring out how to navigate her job as a black female investigator in the notorious unit. When a serial killer takes his show on the road, things get worse for all three. Nicknamed “The Blitz” by the rabid London media, the killer is aiming for tabloid immortality by killing cops in different beats around the city.”

Paddy Considine (In America, Hot Fuzz) is also in talks to co-star as Brant’s openly gay partner.  Written by Nathan Parker (MOON) and directed by Elliot Lester (Love is A Drug).  Well it’s nice to see Statham taking a break from transporting and cranking things up all the time, but personally I will never get tired of seeing him destroy people with a fire hose.  Filming starts on Aug 10th.

Extra Tidbit: Statham was offered the role of Agent 47 in Hitman (2007) after Vin Diesel  was dropped.  Timothy Olyphant eventually took the role.

and the greatest cast of all time is…

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009

So for the past few months I have been rolling my eyes at this talk about the greatest action movie ever to be created, written, and directed by Sylvester Stallone, but it turns out…this thing is real.  The Expendables. Okay I guess we all knew it was a few weeks back but I was too lazy to post anything.

Today comes this following news: Mickey Rourke!  The recently resuscitated actor, riding THE WRESTLER (Mayors top pick for 2008? Find out soon), has joined Sly’s flick as “an unscrupulous arms dealer who becomes the go-to guy for a group of mercenaries planning to topple a South American dictator.”

The project already has Stallone Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Forest Whitaker, Robert Knepper, Juliana Paes, and possibly Sir Ben Kingsley. Plus a lead female role remains as yet unfilled.

Stallone brought Rourke on board his 2000 remake of GET CARTER, and Rourke just worked with Statham on the remake of the French thriller 13 TZAMETI.   I heard Sandra Bullock turned down a role which would have been some Demolition Man reunion, but I guess shes too busy with better things…Jean-Claude Van Damme reportedly passed on the project too, for JCVD he can be forgiven.  Release Date: TBA.
