...and party hardy like you just don't care

Horrible Bosses was the best comedy of 2011; it didn’t overstep the material (but with that great cast, they easily could have) thereby making a movie that you can watch many times over and still laugh.  So good news is that there is going to be a sequel and New Line Cinema has re-hired original writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

As good as that sounds, there is more; they are also trying to get Seth Gordan back to direct.  You still need more?  OK well if you didn’t read the title of this post, the cast including Charlie Day, Jason Bateman, and Jason Sudeikis are coming back according to THR.

Those guys played well together, Day stole the show a few times but it was a fair game all around I thought.  The movie ended up making over $200 million worldwide on a budget of around $35 million, that’s math for sequel right?  Are you looking forward to a sequel to Horrible Bosses?  Let me know below.

change-up

Here is a red band trailer for The Change-Up starring Jason Bateman [see Ryan's Horrible Bosses Review, shameless] and Ryan Reynolds.  I’m not too excited for this one, but it is nice to see an adult ‘switch’ movie.  Remember Freaky Friday?  So we be happy for that I guess.  Since you asked, my favorite body swap movies are Big and Vice Versa.

Check out the trailer below and share your thoughts, it’s  set to be released on August 5th 2011.

Cut To The Chase: Horrible Bosses (2011)

Saturday, July 16th, 2011

Cut To The Chase Reviews from The City of Films are spoiler free ‘Reviews Abridged For Your Pleasure’. Quick, concise, and sometimes entertaining opinions on the go!

Since the first poster was revealed for this one, I have been counting down the days until Horrible Bosses hit theaters. While I didn’t see it on the day it was released, I figured that I would check it out while everybody was lining up for Harry Potter.  I was a bit worried that all of the best gags were going to be revealed in the trailer, thankfully my worries were alleviated within the first 10 minutes.

The gags were raunchy, pushed boundaries, and had the theater in hysterics. As many could tell by the trailer, the cast for this one is stellar. While the likes of Jason Bateman, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx, and Jennifer Aniston are well established – the breakout star is Charlie Day. For those familiar with his work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, I am starting to believe Charlie Day simply plays himself. The dialogue is off the cuff, and his interaction with Jennifer Aniston provide some of the best moments of Horrible Bosses.

Without giving anything away, Horrible Bosses lives up to the hype. One piece of advice I have to offer, if you have small children, don’t bring them to this movie. I say this because a couple brought their kids into this one, and there is nothing more awkward than hearing Jennifer Aniston talk about a man’s junk while a child is crying. Just saying.

Score: 4.5/5

anistonOne of the most anticipated movies here in at The City of Films is Horrible Bosses, we recently gave you a awesome trailer and hyped it in our Summer Movie Guide.  We now have some nice posters via empire to get you even more excited.  The film which stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day as three friends who conspire to kill their bosses played by Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey.

As you can see in the photo evidence to the left, Charlie Day’s character looks to have it the worst.  Imagine Jennifer Aniston sexually harassing you during the day and doing that to a popsicle at night.  Of course he wants to kill her, the bitch.

See Horrible Bosses on July 8.  Check out the posters below: (more…)

horriblebosses

Here’s the first trailer for Horrible Bosses where we see Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day scheme to kill their three bosses (Colin Farrell, Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Aniston).  I have expectations (as I said in the CoF Summer Guide) and so far they have been met with a funny trailer, enjoy.

Horrible Bosses opens on July 8.

For Nick, Kurt and Dale, the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con, the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers…permanently. There’s only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

the invention of lying trailer

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Ricky Gervais’ upcoming THE INVENTION OF LYING (formerly known as THIS SIDE OF THE TRUTH) starring Jennifer Garner, Stephen Merchant, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Louis CK, Rob Lowe, Jason Bateman (Teen Wolf Too), Patrick Stewart, Christopher Guest, Jeffrey Tambor, and Gervais himself has a trailer.

A man discovers how to lie and uses it to become rich and famous.  I have been following this movie for over a year and from what I read in the script to people’s reviews thus far (like J.J. Abrams), it’s going to the Oscars by the sounds of it.  Gervais deserves a little more gold anyways for being so awesome.

Just like Laurel & Hardy

Just like Laurel & Hardy

Admit it, you thought that I was going to post news that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (the duo from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) were going to be doing a movie based on the not so funny SNL skit with Steve Martin and Dan Akroyd. Shame on you and shame on me for leading you down that path.

Seth Rogen, Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, and Bill Hader have joined Greg Mottola’s (Superbad/Adventureland) Paul. Scripted by and starring Pegg and Frost as two British nerds, fresh off a trip to Comic Con, who decide to go on a road trip to Area 51. They meet an alien named Paul who asks them to help him escape from the U.S. Government with tons of references to Aliens, Star Wars, and Back To The Future. Rogen will be providing the voice for the alien creature, and we can only assume that Bateman, Wiig, Hader and Lynch will either play government officials or characters they meet along the way on their road trip adventure. Thanks Variety.

CoF Looks At: this side of the truth

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

I may as well turn CoF into a Gervais fan site hey?  Well this is basically a reminder if you don’t already know (shame on you) that Ricky Gervais will be releasing his movie currently titled THIS SIDE OF THE TRUTH (imdb seems to be going under another title) sometime soon.  Directed by  Gervais and Matthew Robinson, from their own script, the film is set on an alternate Earth where no one has ever lied, and stars Gervais as a performer who tells the world’s first lie, coming to wield its power for personal gain.  I read somewhere (lost the link sorry) that there would be Oscar buzz around this script.  That would be something.

tsottcof

This movie is going to be awesome for many reasons.  Let’s take a look.

tsottck

Gervais is blogging his experience of working on this movie, from his collaboration with co-writer and director Matt Robinson (“During the [conference] call me and Matt passed each other off-putting notes and obscene pictures to make each other laugh. I lost, and at one point had to leave the room”) to observations about picking out costumes as an actor (“Some directors/lead actors would choose their wardrobe based on style, creation of original iconography and aesthetic enhancement of the fictional world. I chose mine based on comfort, how long they take to get in and out of and on what I would want to keep when the movie is complete.”)

tsottcast

His blog is hilarious and more often than not he doesn’t even talk about the movie, he will go on about current events and such.  He keeps you up to date on his Audio Books and TV appearances.  Really handy one stop shop for a Gervais fan.  Look at cast. Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman(Teen Wolf Too), Jonah Hill, Rob Lowe, the great Louis C.K., Tina Fey, Christopher Guest! And Jeffrey Tambor.  This is going to be awesome.

COMING SOON: Official title, release date, and poster.
