incrediblycloseI feel restrained considering the subject matter, but here it goes anyways: I want to punch that little kid in the face.  Thomas Horn who’s only other credit is having won Teen Jeopardy back in 2009 just ruined any chance of interest I had in this movie.  Saying that, it probably wasn’t his idea to shake a tambourine and play U2 music to the action on screen.

Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock star in Extremely Close and Extremely Loud, which is based on the novel of the same name. The movie was directed by Stephen Daldry and also stars Thomas Horn, Max von Sydow, Viola Davis, John Goodman, Jeffrey Wright and James Gandolfini.   The film is set during the events of September 11th, and tells the story of a young boy who loses his father in the terrorist attack and his journey from loss to the healing power of self-discovery.

The movie is set to be release on December 25th, watch the trailer below:

cinema

Not too long ago in my post for HBO’s 2011 line up, I mentioned how I was looking forward to HBO Films’ Cinema Verite, a project I have had my eye on since first hearing about it, we saw the first trailer and needless to say, I’m more excited.  Cinema Verite stars Diane Lane and Tim Robbins , and James Gandolfini. It was directed by husband and wife team Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini (American Splendor), and written by David Seltzer (1976′s The Omen).

The film dramatizes the making of PBS’ 1973 documentary series An American Family, “the first reality show” HBO says.  It chronicled the real life, daily struggles of the Louds, a seemingly perfect California family who were not only catapulted to fame by the film, but helped the creation of a new television genre – the reality TV series.

Cinema Verite premieres on HBO April 23.  Watch the trailer: (more…)

Trailers

Up first for trailers this week, Welcome to the Rileys starring Kristen Stewart and James Gandolfini directed by Jake Scott, son of Ridley. A couple driven apart by the death of their daughter are brought back together when they meet a troubled young woman. Galdolfini looks to be in top form yet again in this nice little dramatic role. Kristen Stewart is shown only for a few seconds here and there, but we haven’t forgotten she really can’t act. The film opens November 5th. (more…)

James Gandolfini inducts Goodfellas into the Guy Movie Hall of Fame and legendary on-screen mobsters, Robert De Niro and Ray Liotta, accept.  My reaction below:

James GandolfiniLife has not been the same since The Sopranos went off the air in 2007.  Sure we have some other quality programming to look forward to on HBO, but I think we all know that the hole left after James Gandolfini and friends left can’t be filled.  Well the next best thing (besides a made-for-HBO movie of The Sopranos) is a new show with James Gandolfini.  According to Variety, Gandolfini is currently developing a new series for HBO.

Titled Taxi 22, the series, which is based on the French Canadian show Taxi 0-22, follows the life of a “politically incorrect cab driver in New York City.” Gandolfini is executive producing the project as well.  The script is being written by Dave Flebotte  (Desperate Housewives, Will & Grace).  I can’t imagine it will be as heavy as The Sopranos, but it will do.  I guess.
