Sequel Updates: BOND 24 Production Delay and STAR TREK 3 is Going Deep

Friday, June 27th, 2014

Screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have worked on a few Bond film in their day including The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Skyfall. They left the series putting Bond 24 in the hands of Jon Logan. Fast forward a year and a half and they’re coming back after some “polite turmoil” behind the scenes. They have been “hired to re-write Logan’s script and give it some “punch”. That’s interesting because it was Logan who came on to work with Puvis and Wade for their Skyfall script. OK that’s not interesting, I’m sorry.

According to Ralph Fiennes, who will return to play M, filming on Bond 24 was scheduled to begin shooting in October, but according to the Daily Mail, the rewrites have moved production’s start to December. Let’s hope it actually happens; Skyfall was one of the best Bond movies to date and has rejuvenated my appreciation for the newer movies starring Daniel Craig. Sam Mendes is still on board to direct this next installment in case you were worried.

Will you be joining me to see Bond 24 in theaters? The movie is currently scheduled to open in the U.K. on October 23, 2015 and in the U.S. on November 6, 2015.

Over in Space, Star Trek 3 director Roberto Orci has teased where the sequel will take the crew:

In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started. The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie. So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.

It sounds like it’s really trying to please fans of the original series with this notion of deep space and the fact that Star Trek Into Darkness ended with the Enterprise going on a five-year exploratory mission (where the original 1960s series started). Are the Star Trek fans excited?
