Source Code Being Adapted as TV Series for CBS

sourcecode

Producer Mark Gordon has plans to adapt the Duncan Jones directed sci-fi film Source Code into a TV series for CBS.  Jones’ movie was entertaining enough, for me it didn’t hit the heights of Moon but continued to show that he’s a solid director whose future work is going to have some high expectations.

According to THR, “like the film on which it is based, the action/procedural follows three former federal agents who are part of a top-secret program. Each week, they’ll use “Source Code” technology to jump into the consciousness of people involved in tragic events”.  This would make for an entertaining show for sure, depending on budget I imagine.  Gordon (Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds) and Steve Maeda (Lost) has been brought on to write it.

It’s a slow news day, can you tell?  Yesterday we shows you the 25 Greatest Unscripted Scenes in Film, today we have 25 Actors Before They Were Famous.  I didn’t know Daniel Craig was in A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, I did however know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on Roseanne because I’ve watched the series enough times.  Leonardo DiCaprio was on an episode in a non speaking role too [see].

box office

I wanted to put something in the way of “Hop skips to #1″ in the headline, but my soul wouldn’t forgive me.  Russell Brand‘s family comedy (he’s the cool bunny with layers of shirts on and headphones in his ears) Hop debuted at #1 with $38.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.  This figure just beats what Rango pulled in its opening weekend.

1. Hop – $38.1M
2. Source Code – $15M
3. Insidious – $13.2M
4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 $10.2M ($38M)
5. Limitless – $9.3M ($55.7M)

Jake Gyllenhaal continues to try and open a movie big with the thriller Source Code; the film debuted at #2 with $15.1 million. Insidious opened at # 3 with $13.5 million. The previous weekend’s top movie, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, fell to #4 with $10.2 million, raising its total to $38.4 million, let the franchise continue.

Synopsis: Jake Gyllenhall plays Colter Stevens, a soldier who is part of an experimental program called ‘Beleaguered Castle’ trying to stop a terrorist attack on a train. His psyche is projected into the body of a passenger on the train, and he relives the attack multiple times as he tries to trace it back to the point of origin.  Living the explosion over and over, Colter must uncover the identity of the bomber, while also figuring out what the alternative universe of Beleaguered Castle is. Adding to the puzzle, Colter uses the second chance opportunities to make peace with his father, and to find romance with a fellow passenger on the train. (more…)

Tomorrow is the premiere of the Prince of Persia film and to say I have been torn would be an understatement. Hollywood is notorious for taking some of the most beloved video games and transforming them into steaming piles of cinematic rubbish. Super Mario Bros. had a humanoid Bowser, Mortal Kombat Annihilation utilized claymation, and House of the Dead was directed by Uwe Boll; just to name a few of the blunders. In the end, despite this track record of failure, I have decided that I will watch Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and it is for these following reasons. (more…)

Review: Brothers (2009)

brotherspostBrothers (2009)

I still see a young Spider-Man.  Sorry Tobey Maguire.  Although he brings maturity and depth to his role in BROTHERS, a part of me is waiting for him to say “with great power comes…” well you know.  Instead we get a lot of yelling and breaking of things, ah feels like home.

BROTHERS, the new home-from-the-war film has been made with obvious sincerity for the subject matter.  I did somewhat expect an anti-war movie, and it never felt that way.  I don’t support war by any means – and this movie didn’t cater to either side.  It is about the war at home.  War is hell and this movie shows some of the consequences.  Yet, with that major upside to the film, it still seems very unrealistic in terms of its characters.  Maguire, as young as he looks and sounds does bring that nervousness with him to the role and you feel it.  Director Sheridan and Maguire run things well here, running a line of tension through the film that explodes at the end; it really had people asking aloud “what’s going to happen.” (Ssshhh, watch and find out people!).

gyllenhaal is doing it wrong

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

The Huffington Post is running an article titled “Jake Gyllenhaal Shirtless In “Prince Of Persia” and go on to show two new images from the upcoming POP movie.  That about sums up what this movie has going for it.  It’s going to be ladies night at the Ciniplex with this one.  This is a Disney adaptation by the way.  Who had nothing to do with the games (awesome by the way) last time I checked, should be interesting to see how they pull this one off.  Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will hit theaters on May 28th 2010.
