The CoF Weekend Preview: Remember Happy Gilmore?

Friday, November 11th, 2011

Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview where we take a look at what’s going on this weekend in entertainment. Check back Monday for The City Strip – It’s going to be scary good. Don’t forget to check out the The City of Films Fall & Holiday Movie Guide to see what else is coming out over the next few weeks and months.

J. EdgarIMDBRT (41%) – Trailer

The union of one of today’s best directors, Clint Eastwood and one of this generation’s finest actors, Leonardo DiCaprio will be something special I think.  I have been looking forward to this one and to be honest, the negative reviews surrounding the film only entice me further.  Maybe it’s the interesting casting of DiCaprio in the title role that does it for me; with The Aviator, he looked nothing like Howard Hughes and it still worked.  I enjoy Eastwood’s storytelling, and with fascinating subject matter about a fascinating man, I would think it’s hard to be disappointed.

ImmortalsIMDBRT (39%) – Trailer

If you liked 300, there’s a good chance you will like this.  It’s unfortunate that I think I won’t like it, Tarsem Singh has done a lot of great work visually, this one just bores me to no end.  Check out The Cell or The Fall instead.

Jack and JillIMDBRT (4%)

George C. Scott watches the Jack and Jill trailer (watch it below).  Shame on everyone involved, so unprofessional.

Melancholia (limited) – IMDBRT (79%) – Trailer

I posted my review earlier this week – that should cover it.

Into the Abyss (limited) – IMDBRT (88%) – Trailer

So we look at why people – and the state – kill in this Werner Herzog documentary.  This is sure to tick a lot of people off, my advice to those offended by it would be to view it more critically and don’t be a twonk.
