It will also feature home movies and interviews with friends, family and the surviving band members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.  Harrison died of lung cancer in 2001.

fattyarbuckle

A few years ago I was at my local library (support yours please) looking for a good read.  I came across some work by Jerry Stahl (Permanent Midnight) including I, Fatty.  This book is a fictionalized autobiography of Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, a famous silent film comedian, I was intrigued.  After finishing the book a few nights later I began the inevitable Internet searches for more on Arbuckle, the not so fictionalized life.  Needless to say what I found was pretty messed up.  Arbuckle (1887-1933) I would soon learn was more than a star; he was a comedian, director and screenwriter who mentored Charlie Chaplin and discovered Buster Keaton and Bob Hope.  He was also accused of rape and murder.

HBO has inked a deal for North American TV rights to Martin Scorsese‘s documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World according to deadline.  It will debut on the network in two parts on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, the film looks at the musical and spiritual life of the ex-Beatle, mostly in Harrison’s own words. Scorsese is no stranger to the music docs; The Last Waltz, No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones doc Shine a Light are true treasures of the genre, you should check them out.

George Harrison, Living In The Material World, will be released on DVD on October 10.

All Things Must Pass:

bwalkBoardwalk Empire Season 2 has been scheduled to air in fall 2011, in the mean time we can look forward to awesome trailers like the one below.  Boardwalk Empire had a very impressive first season, following resounding critical acclaim and high viewer numbers for the series, HBO has renewed Boardwalk Empire for a second season.  A show that has contributions from the likes of Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas) and Terence Winter (The Sopranos), and a cast that includes Steve Buscemi and Michael Shannon, you just know it’s going to succeed.  This show was nothing short of amazing, I can’t wait for season 2.

Ricky Gervais Week II: An Introduction

Monday, June 20th, 2011

gervaisOn Monday July 9, 2001, if you tuned into the BBC, you witnessed history. You watched the pilot of The Office that was written and directed by Ricky Gervais and his long time collaborator Stephen Merchant. The show is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary and Gervais will turn 50 on June 25th.
To celebrate, we are dedicating this week to our hero of comedy with our second annual Ricky Gervais Week. We will hopefully be reminding fans of Gervais why they’re fans in the first place, while making new fans out of non-believers.

Ricky Gervais is perhaps the most influential British comedian ever; he’s certainly an influence in my life. His body of work covers just about everything an inspiring writer and or comedian could hope to achieve. From his days on XFM Radio to sell out stand up tours, Gervais is an icon.
The Office is the most critically acclaimed sitcom of all time becoming the first British comedy to win a Golden Globe. Ricky Gervais has won three Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmys, and seven BAFTAS.

His Fame tour became the fastest selling UK stand up show in history selling 100,000 tickets in 9 minutes. Continue Reading…

Well we are a little over a month away from the season premiere of True Blood. The show has had vampires, werewolves, and now witches! I am not really sure how I feel about this, but I trust HBO that the show won’t start ‘sucking’. Sorry.

True Blood premieres Sunday, June 26.
