Grindhouse

As you probably know and or picked up in one of my many rage posts, when Grindhouse was released in theaters, it was a double feature featuring Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, and a few faux trailers at the beginning and in between. It was the best time you could have at the movies. Not enough people saw it for some reason and thus it became a flop [see here].  When the films were released on DVD, they were distributed as separate movies, with the trailers omitted from both releases. That’s what no one wanted you see, and so they went ahead with it anyways. Sense no that makes.

Grindhouse (for real this time) will hit stores on October 5th 2010.  My birthday is October 9th, just saying.  Veivendi Home Entertainment has the following specs: (more…)

Trailers

Up first for trailers this week, Welcome to the Rileys starring Kristen Stewart and James Gandolfini directed by Jake Scott, son of Ridley. A couple driven apart by the death of their daughter are brought back together when they meet a troubled young woman. Galdolfini looks to be in top form yet again in this nice little dramatic role. Kristen Stewart is shown only for a few seconds here and there, but we haven’t forgotten she really can’t act. The film opens November 5th. (more…)

Grindhouse DVD/Blu-Ray Coming Soon?

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

GrindhouseIn 2007 we were treated to a bunch of great films; we had No Country for Old Men, Zodiac and There Will Be Blood. Most people may forget Grindhouse came out that year too, adored by critics and people who actually watched it (knowing there were 2 films for the price of one) it still stands of one of my favourite times at the movies.  Sadly as most QT DVD releases go, they ballsed it up.

When Grindhouse was released in theaters, it was a double feature featuring Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, Quentin Tarantino ’s Death Proof and faux trailers all around. When the films were released on DVD, they were made as separate movies, with the trailers missing (except Machete).  It looks like we could be getting a complete release.  Edgar Wright, who directed one of the faux trailers for a film titled “Don’t” tweeted today:  So, get this, tomorrow I am doing a commentary on Don’t. Some of you will know what that means is finally happening.

Could it be happening when Machete hits?  We will see. (more…)

First Look At Hobo With A Shotgun

Hobo With A Shotgun
Last week we told you that director Jason Eisener was ready to shoot a feature length version of his Grindhouse trailer Hobo With A Shotgun.  Well, it’s really happening and he’s one of those cool guys giving us all backstage passes; check out the very sick footage below!

The full-length version of the film stars Rutger Hauer, the star of one of my favorite movies of the 80’s, Blind Fury (check out the scene below).  Hobo has a film blog going as well; oh so many goodies in this post were to begin?

Here’s the official synopsis: A vigilante homeless man pulls into a new city and finds himself trapped in urban chaos, a city where crime rules and where the city’s crime boss reigns. Seeing an urban landscape filled with armed robbers, corrupt cops, abused prostitutes and even a pedophile Santa, the Hobo goes about bringing justice to the city the best way he knows how – with a 20-gauge shotgun. Mayhem ensues when he tries to make things better for the future generation. Street justice will indeed prevail. Go Below For More

Hobo With A Shotgun

I have mentioned it a few times on the site that I will forever remember the travesty that was Grindhouse. The film itself was genius and fantastic fun, but nothing worked for them. The film never got the promotion it needed, most people who went to saw it didn’t “get it” and some of them even left after the first feature, seriously!

In 2007 there was a contest at SXSW that invited filmmakers to create their own fake Grindhouse-style movie trailers to go along the Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez film Grindhouse. The winner was Hobo with a Shotgun, from Nova Scotia director Jason Eisener.  Hobo with a Shotgun was attached to Canadian prints of Grindhouse (see it below) and now the feature version of his Grindhouse trailer is about to begin production and in the lead role, Rutger Hauer.  I really think the downfall of Grindhouse was that it went over people’s heads. And I trust Machete and now Hobo with a Shotgun will do the same, they may work better on the home market if you ask me.

Here’s the original Hobo with a Shotgun trailer (NSFW). (more…)

biggest flops of the past five years

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Forbes Magazine has put out a list of what they consider to be the biggest flops of the past five years.  Their math involved taking the budgets of movies with big name stars and comparing them to their box office numbers to get a percentage for return on investment. The Fountain and The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford – neither got a wide release, but we can still laugh.  I am happy to report that the only film on the list I even saw was GRINDHOUSE and unlike all the idiots in the theater who left after PLANET TERROR, I stayed and loved the entire production.  That movie was so underappreciated it still makes me angry.  So here’s the list for the last 5 years and the list of all time bombs.

machete cast revealed

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Variety says that production began this week on Machete, a feature version of the fake trailer [below] that was included in Grindhouse.  It gets better.  Danny Trejo is returning as the title character and Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal (please sing), Lindsay Lohan (really?), Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey play supporting roles.  Robert Rodriguez is co-directing with protege Ethan Maniquis (who?)
