The Book Thief

You can practically see this film scratching at the Oscar Statue case.  It wants it bad.  The trailer itself actually isn’t that awful, until Mr. Voice-over shows up that is.  Then it turns into all those parodies of Oscar baiting film trailers.

Based on the beloved bestselling book, THE BOOK THIEF tells the inspirational story of a spirited and courageous young girl who transforms the lives of everyone around her when she is sent to live with a new family in World War II Germany.

Trailer: The King’s Speech

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Tom Hooper’s film The King’s Speech won top prize at the Toronto Film Festival, and was met with praise at Telluride. We have the trailer for you and it’s great. Colin Firth as King George VI is obviously a safe bet (for now) for an Oscar nomination, of course Geoffrey Rush stands a similar chance as well, and he’s always great isn’t he? The film looks great and should be one to watch out for. The King’s Speech opens in theaters on November 24.

The film is based on the true story of the Queen of England’s father and his remarkable friendship with maverick Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue. The King’s Speech stars Academy Award nominee Colin Firth as King George VI, who unexpectedly becomes King when his brother Edward abdicates the throne. Academy Award Winner Geoffrey Rush stars as Logue, the man who helps the King find a voice with which to lead the nation into war.
