The 2014 Emmy Nominations were announced this morning, and like always they will please and upset people depending on whom you talk to. The great news is that TV Drama is alive and well; it has to be celebrated and just a nomination for attention makes me happy. If you haven’t been watching or have watched shows like True Detective, Fargo, Louis, and Shameless, maybe it’s time. The quick snub I saw would go the mentioned Shameless and the performance by Emmy Rossum (pictured above). She was perfect this past season and watching her on screen was consistently memorizing; another season is on the way thankfully.
The best new TV shows of the year, Fargo and True Detective share a lot in common. Both shows are doing one and done seasons meaning each season is set to have a new cast and with True Detective a new location. They define TV drama and creativity and it’s great to see them recognized. If Billy Bob Thornton doesn’t win I don’t know what’s right anymore.
The Emmy Awards will air live on NBC, Monday, August 25th at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.

The Internet has done it again folks; someone via YouTube made an incredible version of the Game of Thrones intro as if the show was a terrible ’80s HBO hit. They even have the theme song and credit names over the actors faces. The authenticity to make it appear as if it had been taped off of HBO onto VHS is just lovely and brings back so many memories of the dead format.
Remember when your parents would use a whole tape just for cartoons? Then you would try and watch them years later for giggles but your thumb would get sore from pressing the tracking button so you turned to drugs instead? Stay in school.

It’s been 10 months since my last confession and so I’d like to share with you thoughts about What I’ve Been Watching. It’s a chance for me to share some viewing pleasures I have had in the hopes that you’ll check it out for yourself; you never know, you just might find a new favorite TV show!
If I am missing any good movies and/or TV shows, post a comment below or Facebook and let me know.
NEW FOUND GREATS:
This is what happens when the Seven Kingdoms from HBO’s Game of Thrones are replaced by the lands of Super Mario World for SNES. It’s pure gold at 8-bits in this mashup by NicksplosionFX.
“Mario always pays his debts… With Dragon Coins!” NicksplosionFX writes in the description. The video is a near shot-by-shot recreation of the HBO drama’s great opening sequence. If anything, it really made me want to hook up the Nintendo again. NicksplosionFX also created a number of other videos themed to classic games, including one that puts Street Fighter onto a real street.

Welcome to the weekend preview! Check out what’s happening this weekend and decide what you’re going to do, we can only help so much. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook because my mom says those are cool. If you’re looking to find out what’s on for the rest of the summer, check out our COF SUMMER MOVIE GUIDE.
I will be checking this movie out and posting a review this weekend; we don’t do a lot of reviews because there are not a lot of movies we want to waste money on in a theater. Neighbors had me from the get-go with its R rating and bawdy humor that actually works. I’m a bigger fan of Efron than Rogen believe it or not, so I’m happy to see him take on a filthy role such as this. No more High School Musical for him right?
Some moms need their husbands to watch the kids for three hours-what could go wrong? So asks the cheap-looking, unfunny, and sexist movie Moms’ Night Out. Moving along…
What fresh hell is this? Someone lost a bet somewhere.
Saturday Night Live (Saturday, NBC) – Charlize Theron hosts and The Black Keys perform, these are good choices.
Game of Thrones (Sunday, HBO) – This Sunday’s episode is called “The Laws of Gods and Men”. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) stands trial this week, so any best on another favorite character being killed?
I don’t know if you folks know this or not, but Game of Thrones returns this coming Sunday, it’s a little show you may have heard of. All of us here at COF watch it, we think it’s alright. Ahem. OK We love it! As great as last night’s Walking Dead season finale was, everything else on TV can pop off – GoT is king! This week’s City Strip is influenced by a certain fan favorite character on GoT, can you guess who?
I found it lovely and sweet, so we hope you enjoy it. Check out The City Strip #176 – Game On
Welcome to the weekend preview everyone, check out what’s happening this weekend and decide what you’re going to do. The City Strip will be up on Monday, catch up on all the comics here. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook because my mom says those are cool.
I tried to make a winter pun for the title of this post for a few minutes before realizing GoT deserved better. The reviews are in for Captain America and people love it, saying it’s the best Marvel movie to date too! I don’t know if it can get better than Iron Man 3, but good on them for trying. It seems Marvel has found a way to tell a good story and pull off great action all while having smug characters deliver funny lines; the way super hero movies should be if you ask me. Maybe not Batman so much, he should brood as much as possible.
Hannibal (Friday, NBC) – Kevin and I were texting like little girls last week, gushing about this show. It’s the best looking show on TV is on takeaway from that conversation; another is that not enough people watch it yet and it deserves so much attention. It’s not just the look, it’s the great writing and cast. I wouldn’t change a thing about this show, I trust they know what they are doing every week and that’s rare.
WrestleMania (Sunday, PPV) – You know you’re old when you watched WrestleMania VI, and now they’re up to XXX. Good for them, and tanning studios.
Shameless (Sunday, Showtime) – The other great show on TV is becoming more and more popular each season, and rightfully so. These episodes this season are full of non-stop holy sh*t moments and hilarity. It’s the season finale, enjoy.
Game of Thrones (Sunday, HBO) – Season 4 of the fantasy series begins; the unforgiven brutality has definitely changed how people watch the series (and TV in general) – don’t have favorite characters is one point of advice. Ryan is caught up on the books and says a lot of “crazy things” should happen this season if they use the material. What say you Mother of Dragons?
Eighteen days. That might seem like a lot, but take away meals, sleep and bathroom time it’s like an hour really. It will go by like that! (You can’t see me but I snapped my fingers). Here is the fourth and final trailer for the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones; I don’t think I need to talk you into watching this trailer or the 25-minute recap we posted, but if you’re not sold on the show at all, contact me. We will talk.
Game of Thrones returns on April 6th at 9pm on HBO.

The fourth season of Game of Thrones just a few weeks away, is your significant other sick of you shouting quotes throughout the house yet?
Well good news while you wait, here’s a refresher video to remind of the fantastic season 3. It’s a good watch even if your memory isn’t as limited as some; with all the characters and bloodshed we can all admit it might be useful for everyone to watch this.
