With summer officially ending yesterday I found it fitting that my review this week focused on a Game of Thrones fan fiction – ‘Winter is Coming’ friends. While I generally tend to steer clear of fan fiction, I made an exception in this case.
A Tale of Benjen Stark is set north of the wall as as the title character is out on a ranging mission. In a familiar scene, Benjen stumbles across a Wildling camp massacred. The production value is rather high and the limited dialogue is a benefit. Avoiding a lot of conversation can hide flawed acting and in this instance really allows the viewer to focus on the visuals. The production value of this fan fiction is rather high. Without giving too much away, not a lot of story progresses here. Again, this is another good thing as it doesn’t create any inaccuracies with the plot that has existed or the plot that is yet to come.
Created by Benjamin Von Wong, A Tale of Benjen Stark clocks in at approximately 6 minutes. If you don’t enjoy fan fiction, well then you may want to take a pass on this. If you can like it for what it is, this is worth a look! Check it out after the jump!
Summer is coming.
With that being said, there is still a ton of good movies and television to watch. Who needs the Sun right? Well while I mention the word “good”, it doesn’t exactly mean that what I have been watching is good. Just remember, don’t judge me too harshly.
1. Game of Thrones
I am sure you gathered this was coming from the title, and the banner image, and the fact that some of the most talked about television involves this show. So many videos involving The Rains of Castamere episode have gone viral. With good cause of course. It was hard hitting, it was gut wrenching, it was everything that is great and tragic about television. (more…)
Hey you know that super popular HBO series with the swords, the wars, and the dragons – Game of Thrones? Well series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss sat down with KCRW’s “UpClose’ series and talked all things Westeros.
In it they cover how this amazing series came to fruition, why some things differed from book to television show, some quirky comments about author George R. R. Martin and so on. The audio clocks in at approximately an hour and is a must listen for fans of the Game of Thrones TV and book series. Use the audio player below to give it a whirl!
Well it’s been a long time since I have confessed to you all what I have been watching. It’s probably because what’s been on my TV lately has been a mixture of reality TV and losing sports teams. After giving it a little bit of thought, I came to the realization that I have been watching a lot of really good television lately. Am I missing any good movies and/or TV? Probably. Post a comment on the website or Facebook and let me know what I should check out!
UPDATE – HBO has released a third preview titled ‘Enemies’. It is the first video after the jump. It seemed to heavily focus on the idea of hating all Lannisters not named Tyrion. Good fun!
Are you excited yet? We are a little over halfway through March, which means Game of Thrones season 3 will be premiering soon. To continue the hype machine HBO has released 2 new previews to whet your appetite. Titled ‘War’ and ‘Beast’ – these previews elaborate a bit more on the season 3 trailer we saw released earlier this month. More Walkers, more dragons, people talking about how they want to kill Joffrey – what more could you ask for from a preview?!
Game of Thrones season 3 premieres Sunday, March 31st on HBO.
George R. R. Martin recently signed a two year contract with HBO, which is exciting for nerds and dorks alike. What does that mean you ask? Well it means that on top of the Game of Thrones series, he will be working on new projects. In an interview with IGN he let it be known that comedies aren’t his style, but a Game of Thrones prequel isn’t out of the question. This makes a lot of sense as there is growing concern that he will the television series will catch up to his book series at his current writing pace. With an existing lore to tap into, it wouldn’t be as time consuming as writing a tale from scratch.
In other news, somebody made a Game of Thrones style intro video for Sim City. Reel cool!
Update: HBO has released a new and extended trailer. It’s even more awesome. Not that I studied it frame by frame, alright, I studied it frame by frame.
For fans of the Game of Thrones series, you have eagerly been anticipating something more than a teaser trailer that shows you nothing of things to come. Well sink your teeth into this. A full official trailer for the new season is here. Game of Thrones season 3 starts on 03/31/13.
War is Coming – April 1st, that’s two weeks from today for those of you keeping score. Game of Thrones returns to television for a second season in the world of Westeros. In celebration, and of course anticipation, of this fact I have decided to do a quick review of the complete first season now out on Blu Ray. Let me preface this by stating, I am generally not a huge special features fan. I rarely buy a boxset because of the awesome cast interviews, and I never buy a boxset for interactive menus.
There’s something for everyone on HBO if you ask me. Take a look at the latest trailers for two of their best shows, very different. Get ready for an all new season of Eastbound & Down, premiering Sunday, February 19. Game of Thrones begins season 2 on April 1st, and HBO has released the new season’s most explicit trailer to date.
