Life for The Dark Tower on Netflix?

For those who know me, know I am a champion for the cause of The Dark Tower coming to television and movies. And for those who have been following my posts about this know the constant disappointment of this never coming to fruition. Well just to string fellow lovers of The Dark Tower – there is new life to this project!
In a recent interview with Stuff, Ted Sarandos (Chief Content Officer at Netflix) was asked about whether The Dark Tower could follow House of Cards and Arrested Development as being new original content his company offers. Sarandos mentioned that he spoke with Ron Howard about the project and that it is something that would be revisited once Arrested Development gets through.
As a refresher, the original conversation was about starting with 3 movies that would transition into a TV series for the remainder of the story. While some question how well this would work, I think it would be perfect. Netflix has made great strides in original television content, but not so much into great original movies. This would be the opportunity to create it all and stagger the release dates. As a former Netflix user myself, this would be enough to bring me back to the service.
What say you citizens? Anyone believe this will actually happen? Or have you become disenchanted with the whole effort? Remember, Ender’s Game was in development hell for a long time but we are on the verge of having the first full trailer released this Tuesday. Which we will have for you on this very site!
New Ender’s Game Image – Salamander Army!
It’s been a slow burn for fans of the Ender’s Game novel who for years have been waiting for the movie adaptation to surface. Well awhile back it was announced the film was finally in production and we have seen images slowly trickle out to the inter-tubez. The latest is no less exciting – below is a shot of Ender and Petra in what looks like the Salamander Army mess hall. I’ve seen people over-analyze each image that gets released for this film. I won’t go that far, but it is great to see progress being made.
Ender’s Game stars Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford and will be released on November 1st, 2013.

Dark Tower Movie Not Happening For Now
So for many regulars here at the City of Films, you may have come to know that I am a huge fan of the Dark Tower book series. Which of course means that when news broke that there would be three movies and two mini series created to bring the epic tale to life, I was ecstatic. Well my dreams have been crushed again.
Universal Studios have announced that they will in fact not commit to the adaptation being pitched by Ron Howard. Deadline has reported that Universal issues their pass after Howard and company would not accept only a one movie commitment. Now the filmmakers are back to square one in their search for a studio to financially back the project.
It’s starting to feel like the long rumored Ender’s Game film project. While an ambitious project, the reward of a great story being brought to the big screen has Dark Tower fans everywhere crossing their fingers in hopes that this one gets made.
