Grindhouse

As you probably know and or picked up in one of my many rage posts, when Grindhouse was released in theaters, it was a double feature featuring Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, and a few faux trailers at the beginning and in between. It was the best time you could have at the movies. Not enough people saw it for some reason and thus it became a flop [see here].  When the films were released on DVD, they were distributed as separate movies, with the trailers omitted from both releases. That’s what no one wanted you see, and so they went ahead with it anyways. Sense no that makes.

Grindhouse (for real this time) will hit stores on October 5th 2010.  My birthday is October 9th, just saying.  Veivendi Home Entertainment has the following specs: (more…)

Family Guy Star WarsSay what you will about Family Guy‘s decreasing quality (I would agree with you), but one thing is for sure; they put a lot of work into their spoofs.  They love them some Star Wars that’s well known, but they have also had a lot of Back to the Future spots too, I wonder if they plan working on that trilogy soon.  Seth Macfarlane recently bought a DeLorean by the way, hinty hint hint.

Fox announced at Comic-Con that the final chapter in the Family Guy Star Wars mockery It’s a Trap will release on DVD and Blu-ray on December 21st. Seth McFarlane  also showed the first 10 minutes at Comic-Con. McFarlane claims this is his final parody on the Star Wars films.

The Goonies

Hey you guys!  Warner Bros. has announced all the details for The Goonies 25th Anniversary Collection DVD/Blu-ray box set, out November 2nd 2010.  The box set includes a board game, some original movie storyboard reproductions, a 1985 souvenir magazine reprint, and and reprint of 2009 Empire Magazine article with cast photos and updates.  This is a pretty sweet collection, sadly I have seen this movie at least 20 times, so it would be straight t to the board game for me. But wait, there’s more!

Grindhouse DVD/Blu-Ray Coming Soon?

GrindhouseIn 2007 we were treated to a bunch of great films; we had No Country for Old Men, Zodiac and There Will Be Blood. Most people may forget Grindhouse came out that year too, adored by critics and people who actually watched it (knowing there were 2 films for the price of one) it still stands of one of my favourite times at the movies.  Sadly as most QT DVD releases go, they ballsed it up.

When Grindhouse was released in theaters, it was a double feature featuring Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, Quentin Tarantino ’s Death Proof and faux trailers all around. When the films were released on DVD, they were made as separate movies, with the trailers missing (except Machete).  It looks like we could be getting a complete release.  Edgar Wright, who directed one of the faux trailers for a film titled “Don’t” tweeted today:  So, get this, tomorrow I am doing a commentary on Don’t. Some of you will know what that means is finally happening.

Could it be happening when Machete hits?  We will see. (more…)

Avatar

Let’s get avatarded in here!

It took less than 10 weeks for James Cameron’s Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all-time.  Now, in just four days, it has sold more DVDs  and Blu-rays than any previous home video release.  The bare bones disc, released on Earth Day, sold 6.7 million copies, 2.7 were Blu-rays.

Those numbers beat the previous champ and the highest-grossing film of 2008, The Dark Knight, which took 18 months to top out at 2.5 million units sold.

“The extraordinary initial sales for Avatar are clearly a game changer for the Blu-ray format,” reads the press release. “Blu-ray players for the first time are surpassing DVD players at retail outlets across the country as fans are upgrading their systems to experience the best picture and sound quality available. The phenomenal theatrical success of Avatar resonated across different cultures all around the globe and that is now translating into record-breaking results for the Blu-ray and DVD release of the film.” - Keith Feldman, general manager and exec VP of international for Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Internationally, 400,000 discs were sold in France, 450,000 in Germany and over 3,000 were stolen from a delivery truck in Mexico, for realWho is waiting for the true edition?  Who loves The Money Pit?

How To Skip DVD Trailers And More

FBI Warning

We all know the pain and suffering that comes with being forced to endure warnings and trailers before we can get to our movie.  They do it to us in the theater and at home, leaving you with a half eaten bowl/bag of popcorn in the process.  Bullocks if you ask me.  Although we may not be able to fight it in the theater, we can sure try to at home.

We all might have our own secrets and tips (feel free to share below) but today’s came courtesy of Digital Inspiration (bookmark it, trust me).

How to Skip Trailers and Ads on DVD Movies – DVD discs often have a UOP flag set that is used for displaying copyright notices, FBI warnings and commercials that cannot be skipped. However, if your DVD player hardware ignores the UOP flag, the commercials can be bypassed.  The easiest way to skip (or fast forward) all the ads, warnings and trailers from the DVD movies is this — just press the Stop button on the DVD remote followed by the Menu button and it will take you straight to the main menu from where you can play the movie.  However, if this age-old method for skipping trailers doesn’t work with your DVD player, try an alternate trick from Tom Merritt in the video below, other tricks after the jump.

The Plug: Up In The Air on DVD Tomorrow

Monday, March 8th, 2010

One of last year’s best movies and the only George Clooney film I can watch without wanting to punch his smug face arrives on DVD/Blu-ray tomorrow; UP IN THE AIR.  Why is this important?  Well as I said, it’s one of the best.  Jason Reitman‘s previous works that also fall under “best of that said year” include: Thank You For Smoking and Juno.

Up in the Air was a movie I didn’t see until late in the year, so when I feel bad about situations like that I tend to come back and do cheap plugs such as this to help Citizens like yourself find it if by chance you passed it up.  With great writing and strong performances (and several Oscar noms) to look forward to you will not soon regret checking this one out.  Here is a scene: (more…)
