The Art of Drew Struzan

The Art of Drew StruzanThere’s a movie poster book coming out called The Art of Drew Struzan. Struzan created some of the most iconic movie posters ever [see] and there is even a documentary about it [trailer].  The book takes a look at a collection of movie art that he created that many of us have never seen before.  Some of the unseen art can be found below, like Back to the Future.  If it wasn’t for that brutal running tagline at the top, the poster would be grade A.  There actually is a sweet poster for Waterworld below too, who knew?

For those who don’t appreciate a fine movie poster, I direct to this.  How very thoughtful and non-insulting to the brain right?  Moving on.  The Art of Drew Struzan gathers more than 300 pieces of artwork including sketches, concept art and finished posters for E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Hellboy II and dozens of other pictures. The book also includes previously unseen illustrations for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Blade Runner, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome and Waterworld. Struzan retired in 2008.  The Art of Drew Struzan hits bookstores September 14th.

Trailers

THE NEXT THREE DAYSPaul Haggis returns to perhaps divide people once again (I for one liked Crash) with a remake of the 2008 French film Pour Elle (Anything For Her).  The trailer started off strong, and then got very over top for my taste.  When movies start throwing in semi-trucks for a climax I tend to get bored.

Synopsis: Life seems perfect for John Brennan (Russell Crowe) until his wife, Lara (Elizabeth Banks), is arrested for a gruesome murder she says she didn’t commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son and teaching at college while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence.  John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison.  Opens November 19th 2010.
