Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview where we take a look at what’s going on this weekend in entertainment. Check back Monday for The City Strip. Don’t forget to check out the The City of Films Fall & Holiday Movie Guide to see what else is coming out over the next few weeks and months.
The most anticipated movie of the year for me is finally here, somewhere. Of course it’s trailing well with critics and audiences, and of course it’s only in limited release making hard for me to find and love. Michael Shannon is expected to win some neat awards for his role here; he’s as good as ever on Boardwalk Empire which is off to its second season. He’s everywhere and should be. Check out all of our coverage for Take Shelter here.
Cancer is funny again, and Seth Rogen is here to make sure of it. Just look at his face in the poster, he’s so wacky. I’m glad to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt in more movies, he’s a good kid.
Courageous – IMDB – RT (33%)
From the makers of Fireproof comes another Christian drama that people love for some reason, check this: Courageous was released to 1,161 theaters on September 30, 2011 and sold the most pre-sale tickets of the weekend on Fandango, beating out The Lion King 3D, Moneyball, Dolphin Tale and Drive. It grossed over $2,000,000 in pre-sales. Jesus.
Spooky house and spooky revelations will most definitely lead to an unsatisfying ending, one of many on the DVD that will be out next month.
I’m not telling you.

Here is the new trailer for Dream House directed by Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father) starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz. In the movie, a family moves into a new home only to discover that a brutal killing took place in the residence years before.
You can see from the trailer what happens next, which is odd. They reveal a whole lot it seems, unless they are pulling out another swerve in the last few minutes of the film. Thrillers that have come out over the last decade seem to have a lot of style to them, but the story is a mess and wraps up with no conclusive ending like no one bothered to write it. Let’s hope with this stellar cast they have something to say.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Dream House opens later this year on September 30th.
