Wall-E director Andrew Stanton is back in Outer Space, this time with John Carter, and it feels very familiar. I couldn’t help but feel Avatar and Prince of Persia has something to do with Disney’s latest turn at live action. It has promise; the use of Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir is a good start anyways. They didn’t give Carter much to say here (played by Taylor Kitsch), and when he did speak it was bland at best, not a good sign.
John Carter is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
John Carter opens in 3D on March 9, 2012. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Disney’s re-release of Beauty and the Beast in 3D has a trailer; the classic animated movie will hit theater on January 13th 2012. There is no reason to pay the high prices to see this in 3D, if you like the movie that much you already own it on DVD or Blu-ray. It’s a good movie, so enjoy it anyway you can I guess.
Check out the trailer below, Beauty and the Beast 3D opens on January 13, 2012 with the new short film, Tangled Ever After.

Here is the official trailer for The Secret World of Arrietty from the legendary Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Ponyo) based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series “The Borrowers.” Residing quietly beneath the floorboards are little people who live undetected in a secret world to be discovered, where the smallest may stand tallest of all.
The lovely looking film opens February 17, 2012 and was directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi from a screenplay by the legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa. The voice cast for this English-language version includes Bridgit Mendler, Amy Poehler, Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, David Henrie, and Moises Arias. Watch out the trailer below:

The Lion King 3D has surprised a lot of people (myself included) with the success it has been getting at the box office (over $80M domestic). So Disney noticed too and has announced limited theatrical engagements for four of its classic films for the first time in 3D:
- Beauty and the Beast – January 13, 2012
- Finding Nemo – September 14, 2012
- Monsters, Inc. – January 18, 2013 (the prequel Monsters University opens in theaters in Disney Digital 3D on June 21, 2013)
- The Little Mermaid – September 13, 2013
These are all good movies, classics really – and yes it would be nice to see them on the big screen again, but with 3D involved I can’t quite say I approve fully. Blu-ray releases in the mean time will be just fine for me.
- Beauty and the Beast was the first animated film ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Box Office = $380.4 million worldwide.
- Finding Nemo won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Box Office = $867.6 million worldwide.
- Monsters, Inc. made history with 11 million DVD/VHS copies being sold during its first week of release. It won an Academy Award for Best Song. Box Office = $526.9 million worldwide.
- The Little Mermaid won two Academy Awards (Best Original Score, Best Song). Box Office =$228.9 million worldwide.

I’m in a pissy mood today so I’m going to take it out on movies, sound good? Deadline reports that Walt Disney Pictures has stopped productionThe Lone Ranger described by director Gore Verbinski as “‘Don Quixote’ told from Sancho Panza’s point of view”. I can’t be the first person to notice that Johnny Depp as Tonto is a little hard to take? The Native American character is pretty well known as…Native American. Also, this sounds incredibly boring and it seems the studio thought so by casting Depp in that role and asking for a ridiculous concept that took them into a budget over $200M.
Filmmakers were trying to reduce the budget from $250 million, and had gotten down to $232 million. The studio already had a number of other big live-action films on the slate that have been very costly. For instance, John Carter cost more than $300M because of extensive re-shoots (so you know it’s going to be good) and Sam Raimi’s The Great and Powerful Oz, whose budget is at $200 million.
Good. This movie shouldn’t be made and I’m glad it’s dead (for now). Those other “blockbusters” with inflated budgets deserve to fail as well, no one is interested. Like Conan the Barbarian, let’s just see how awesome that movie does this weekend.

The trailer for The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a odd one, and could have easily been turned into a horror movie, too bad. Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton are a couple who are not able to conceive. They write down their hopes and dreams for the child they’ll never have, put the writing in a box, and bury the box in their backyard. They wake up to find a kid, who calls them mom and dad. Leaves a lot of questions for sure don’t you think?
Here’s the official synopsis and trailer for The Odd Life of Timothy Green:

No more parody trailers, this is the real deal. They spoofed romantic comedies and Green Lantern, but now The Muppets have their own feature trailer, and the whole gang is here. Written by Muppets fan Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, the Muppets return to the movies to raise $10 milllion to save the Muppet Theater.
There will be cameos galore (some we don’t even know about yet) that include Zach Galifianakis, Ricky Gervais, Neil Patrick Harris, Emily Blunt, Billy Crystal, and Jack Black
The Muppets opens on November 23. Watch the trailer after the break; we also included the full synopsis. What do you guys think? Can The Muppets comeback?

Another theme ride is coming to life, and it’s going to take Woody and Buzz to make it interesting. It worked with Pirates of the Caribbean thanks to Johnny Depp and company, and now Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will take the plunge with Jungle Cruise. Can their animated chemistry work in a live-action film? Disney thinks so:
The Walt Disney Studios is excited to be in development with Mandeville Films and writer Roger S.H. Schulman on a feature film based on the Jungle Cruise, one of the most iconic attractions in Disney theme park history. The film will pair up Tim Allen and Tom Hanks in their first live-action project, after their previous collaborations in the Toy Story trilogy.
From what I’m told of the ride, Jungle Cruise is a leisurely ride along a lagoon with some animatronic animals. Here’s the description of the ride from the Disney site. [Source: Deadline]
