If it wasn’t clear enough before, trust me when I say The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo has the makings to be the best movie of the year.  In the last City of Films Show [here] we all agreed that it was definitely on our radar as a must see this fall/holiday season, in a moment you will see why.

David Fincher (Fight Club, The Social Network) and Sony deserve a lot of praise for being so true to the material and holding onto that hard R rating, the feel bad movie of Christmas is for adults, the way it was meant to be.  Much of the success of course will be attributed to screenwriter Steven Zaillian, who’s work you have likely seen -  American Gangster, Gangs of New York, Schindler’s List to name a few.  And yes, Trent Reznor is back (heard in The Social Network) for another great soundtrack.

They have released an extended trailer – three minutes and forty five seconds which is worth watching, for me it marks the last trailer for the film I will watch (I want to go as fresh as I can).  The film stars Rooney Mara stars as Lisbeth Salander, a young hacker with a dark secret who investigates the Vanger family with disgraced journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig).

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and to read a synopsis.  The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21.

A new featurette has been released for Terrence Malick’s new film The Tree of Life which has directors David Fincher and Christopher Nolan talking about Malick and the movies he makes.  For those on the fence about seeing this film, perhaps two great directors like Fincher and Nolan can convince you.  If not, there is some more visually stunning footage in this video that should grab your attention. Below is the trailer for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, an adaptation of a book and American version of the film, as a Swedish version was made in 2009.  This film is directed by David Fincher and is the best trailer I have seen in a long time and easily the best of the year so far; we get a cover version of “Immigrant Song” by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Trent Reznor.  Reznor previously made an outstanding soundtrack on Fincher’s last, The Social Network [sample].  Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens December 21, watch the trailer after the jump and leave your comments. I really don’t know what to think about this movie.  Is the story that interesting?  Does anyone care how Facebook came to be?  Here is the the full theatrical trailer for David Fincher‘s (yes, the man behind Zodiac, Seven, Fight Club) The Social Network, based on all the drama that went on behind the scenes when FaceBook was being developed.  It still leaves me wondering what the final product will be; I guess they got me there.  Watch it after the jump and let me know what you think.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake summons the curly power of Ryan Phillippe.

Synopsis: On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history, but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.  The film is set to come out on October 1st. Se7en

If you already have a pretty good Blu-ray collection growing or if you are just starting out – you will be happy to know that David Fincher‘s Se7en is finally coming, September 14th of this year.  As one of the best serial killer movies, it’s hard to believe it took so long, it does however look like they loaded this edition for us.  The new re-mastered feature was supervised by Fincher, so it’s not an awful double dip.

Features:

  • Four commentaries featuring director David Fincher, actors Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman and others.
  • Additional/extended scenes.
  • Alternate endings.
  • Exploration of the opening title sequence.
  • Production design and still photographs with commentaries.
  • The Notebooks: Full motion video details John Doe´s writings.
  • Theatrical trailer.
