Box Office Report: Too Close To Call For Cowboys vs. Aliens vs. Smurfs

With the Box Office numbers still being too close to call, I went ahead and called it anyways.  Smurfs isn’t #1 okay, it just isn’t.  Good for Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford, two fine actors showing the blue jerks who’s boss.  For the nitpickers, you can check out Box Office Mojo or The-Numbers on Monday for an official winner.

2. The Smurfs – $36.2M
3. Captain America – $24.9M – $116.7M
4. Harry Potter – $21.9M – $318.4M
5. Crazy, Stupid, Love – $19.3M

I guess we can spin it anyway we want, but Cowboys might come out a loser either way, with a projected budget of about $200M (the project started development in 1997) it’s hard to imagine the film having the legs to really stand out or merit the studio’s favorite word, “sequel”.  The Smurfs will have a sequel, new TV show and probably a “meet the chipmunks” movie too.  I’m going back to bed.

I’m still on the fence I suppose.  Sure, it’s got Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde topless for some reason, but still.  Ever since Jonah Hex tried to happen I’ve been hesitant to think anything good can come of mixing comic books and the old west.  I’ll watch Back to the Future III instead, I’m safe that way.

That’s right ladies; you’re all easily seduced as long as we have a nice suit on and a expensive haircut.  The secret it out!  No but seriously this movie doesn’t look as bad as it probably should; the cast is great and Kate Hudson isn’t involved.  Potential.

Trailer: Crazy, Stupid Love Starring Steve Carell & Ryan Gosling

Filmmakers Glenn Ficarra and John Reque (I Love You, Phillip Morris) are back with a romantic comedy called Crazy, Stupid, Love.  The film stars Steve Carell getting relationship advice from Ryan Gosling after his relationship with his wife (Julianne Moore) disintegrates.  It looks pretty predictable but fun nevertheless; I love it when women fall for a man after he gets a clothes makeover, it’s so real life.

Here’s the full synopsis and trailer after the jump: Straight-laced Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) is living the dream–good job, nice house, great kids and marriage to his high school sweetheart. But when Cal learns that his wife, Emily (Julianne Moore), has cheated on him and wants a divorce, his “perfect” life quickly unravels. Worse, in today’s single world, Cal, who hasn’t dated in decades, stands out as the epitome of un-smooth. Now spending his free evenings sulking alone at a local bar, the hapless Cal is taken on as wingman and protege to handsome, thirtysomething player Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). (more…)
