CoF Presents: 10 Reasons Why The Dark Knight Rises Will Be The Best Movie Ever Made
Tuesday, April 5th, 2011To hell with it, we’ve decided to go super optimistic with The Dark Knight Rises and have compiled a list of reasons why you should too. If The Dark Knight was the Empire Strikes Back of sequels, then TDKR is a combination of Return of the King, Last Crusade, Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Toy Story 3 and Goldfinger! How’s that for hype? July 20th, 2012 will go down in history as the day the greatest movie ever made was released and here’s why in no particular order: (more…)
[Updated] Joseph Gordon-Levitt Is Alberto Falcone In The Dark Knight Rises
Monday, March 21st, 2011
[Catch up on all of our DKR coverage]
Back in February we supplied the world with the great news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was going to be in Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises. The pair worked previously on Inception and we all know how great that worked out, well get ready for more.
It has been revealed that he will be taking on the role of Alberto Falcone a.k.a. The Holiday Killer, the son of Mafia head Carmine Falcone played by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins bringing the greatest comic book movies of all time full circle. Variety goes on to mention the role and how it “fits with the director’s stated intentions for continuity and “realistic” villains.”
The cast is coming together really well, I am going to stay clear of as many set pictures and spoilers as I can, I almost feel like I know too much already. The Dark Knight Rises July 20th 2012.
[Update March 21] – EW is putting a stop to the recent news that Joseph Gordan-Levitt will play Alberto Falcone in The Dark Knight Rises. He has indeed been cast in the film, but EW says he won’t be playing this character. Stay tuned as we find clarification.
Anne Hathaway is Selina Kyle, Tom Hardy is Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
Wednesday, January 19th, 2011
This should put a few dozen rumours to rest, it’s official; Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises and Tom Hardy will play Bane. [Deadline]
I don’t know where this movie is headed, it’s scary to think it might be going down Spider-Man 3 territory where we have so many characters, no story and a mess at the end. If you recall, our DA Ryan proposed the idea of Bane back with our Who’s the next Villain article, and I think we were both tired of Catwoman so neither called that. Note that Anne is cast as Selina Kyle right now, with no mention of Catwoman. Bane was created in the early ’90s for the ‘Knightfall’ storyline, in which Bane famously broke Batman’s back. He is highly intelligent, and has on a few occasions, worked on Batman’s side.
The Dark Knight Rises is rumoured to have two leading female characters one was to be a villain and the other was to be a love interest. Will Selina be the love interest? Will Catwoman surface? Will Talia al Ghul (R’as al Ghul ‘s daughter) appear (in the comics, her father R’as had association with Bane)? Also note the press release states that this will be a “new interpretation” of Bane, so really they could do anything.
Here’s the press release: (more…)
BATMAN 3 is The Dark Knight Rises
Wednesday, October 27th, 2010In an interview published this morning by Geoff Boucher of Hero Complex, director Christopher Nolan revealed that the title of the third Batman film will be The Dark Knight Rises. He also gave some details about the plot and direction of the upcoming sequel. More is coming in today, so here is what we know:
- “It won’t be The Riddler” (he also sad earlier it wouldn’t be Mr. Freeze)
- “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones”
- Nolan also commented about convincing Warner Brothers to go with IMAX instead of 3D for the film.
- TDKR is looking for a female lead right now, start guessing [like we did].
I can see why the Riddler was cast off, he’s a little too familiar perhaps to the work the Joker did in TDK. No 3D is always a great thing, sounds like Nolan is staying on track to what he envisioned in the beginning and not letting people change it for him. The Dark Knight Rises is great because it tells us it’s not going to be The Dark Knight Returns (Frank Millers’ classic story) and ‘Returns’ was already used – I know I’m stretching it there. Rises also feels like redemption could be forthcoming. Oh the possibilities! As for the villain, if your trying to figure it out here is a tip: think Nolan universe. Check back later today for more. The Dark Knight Rises on July 20, 2012.

Superman Revival Gets Director And Villain
Tuesday, October 5th, 2010
So now that the dust has settled somewhat on the big news from last night, here are the details. Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Legend of the Guardians and Sucker Punch ) will be directing the Christopher Nolan-produced David Goyer-scripted Superman for WB. THR is reporting that “like Superman Returns, it’s rumored to have a connection to Richard Donner’s Superman films. In this case, it’s the villain, General Zod.”
Snyder told USA Today: “Mainly male (superheroes), have gotten to evolve over the years. Batman. The X-Men. But I think the first (Superman) movies were so well done, he kind of got stuck. I think our challenge is to bring him to a modern audience that’s still respectful of the character.”
Brandon Routh is probably not going to return if they seem to be starting over again, which is sad because I though he did a fine job and no one can say anyone else looks more like Superman than him. If there is one hero that doesn’t need an origin story, it’s Superman. Leave it to the animated opening credits because I know they don’t have to explain one of the most iconic figures of all time again. Zod is a good choice, there is only so many times Superman can fight Kryptonite, so have him brawl with someone who has the same powers, fair fight.
Zack Snyder confirms that as soon as he completes post on Sucker Punch, he’ll move right into the Man of Steel. “I’ve been a big fan of the character for a long time, he’s definitely the king of all superheroes, he’s the one,” Snyder told Deadline. “It’s early yet, but I can tell you that what [screenwriter] David [S. Goyer] and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern”. If I see Superman updating his facebook status in this movie, I’m out.
Zack Snyder’s Superman will target a holiday 2012 release.
Some Not So Obvious Batman 3 News
Thursday, September 30th, 2010
As if the madness hadn’t started already during the final credits of The Dark Knight, the words coming from director Christopher Nolan can finally lay some rumors to rest and we can start getting facts about the next Batman installment.
We’ve assumed that Christopher Nolan is to direct the third Batman, even if there has been no official statement made by him or the studio…until now. Nolan recently told Empire that it is safe to assume he’s directing.
It’s becoming inevitable, I’ll put it that way…I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I’m pretty excited about what we’re doing so… If I haven’t announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I’m doing it.
Asked if “we can safely assume you’re directing,” Nolan replied “I think you can at this point, yes.” Christopher Nolan confirmed he will be back to direct, and is currently revising a draft of the screenplay written by co-writer Jonathan Nolan. Nolan can pretty much do anything at WB now after making The Dark Knight and Inception – mo money, mo movies I always say. I don’t.
