Whether it was the 99 cent bargain bin VHS tapes at Superstore, or the annual TBS marathon, I have been a huge fan of the James Bond franchise since I was of a young age. Needless to say, when Skyfall was announced I was beyond excited. Daniel Craig is back for round 3, officially having him surpass Timothy Dalton, and eclipse George Lazenby in the 007 mythology.

While Casino Royale breathed new life into the franchise, Quantum of Solace seemed to take it away. With that being said, Skyfall doesn’t seem to be getting the press that I, and many fellow Bond fans, feel it deserves. Finding any news requires a lot of Google searches, and cross referencing (yes a bit of an exaggeration).

With that long winded description out of the way, consider this your one stop shop for all things Skyfall. As news and releases become available, we will be posting them. This page will be updated frequently. So without further ado..

What’s It About?

Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Locations Will Be Limited

The word is that the budget for this movie has been cut heavily. So what does that mean for shooting locations? It will mostly be shot in the UK. The only other location shooting will be in Turkey. Originally shooting was to take place in Bali and China among others. At this point it will be shot  in the London locations of Canary Wharf, Charing Cross, and Turkey. At this point, I won’t let it bring me down, I still believe.. that’s what computer special effects are for, right? RIGHT?!

Hello Citizens!  We here in the City of Films love movie posters.  We don’t post a lot of news about posters because frankly nowadays they are boring and half-assed.  For any movie aficionado you know how great a movie poster can be; it’s art and that’s why we hang them in our homes.  You size it up, have it flattened, frame it and place her in just the right spot on the wall.  Move aside family portrait, The Goonies are going up!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
This is a prime example of a poster that will divide people into the love it or hate it categories.  I loved this poster before I saw the great movie for a few reasons.  It’s very simplistic yet revealing about the main character; in your life you have either seen this kind of writing on a wall somewhere or maybe even put the pen down yourself.  The poster is funny and pretty sad, it’s not often you can reveal this kind of emotion in a movie poster, it was risky and it paid off.

Running with Scissors
Fact:  I have never seen this movie and don’t plan to.  I read the book which it is based on and hold it dear and true to my library.  When I first saw this poster I couldn’t help but laugh, they got it right.  The book and characters within are, to be blunt, disturbed.  This poster embodies the books sense of crazy very well, you can’t look away.

The House of the Devil
This poster is one that made me fill up with so much nostalgia and love for the horror genre.  The main reason is, if you are not familiar with the film, it was made in 2009, doesn’t look like it right?  It’s one of the creepiest posters I’ve seen, the tagline reads:  “Talk on the phone. Finish your homework. Watch TV. Die.” The film is set in the 1980s and the poster was designed to reflect that.  There is so much genius in here, even the font impresses me.

Casino Royale
This was by far the best 007 movie poster. Like the movie I found it to be somewhat dark, edgier, and far less campy than the previous installments of the franchise [see]. The font could have had less…glow I guess, but the poker chips, the gun, the tuxedo; it all pretty much summed up what this movie was about. In fact the only thing that could have made this poster epitomise James Bond anymore would be to have a martini beside the gun and some cleavage in the background. He’s always shagging.

Pulp Fiction
Honestly, there isn’t anything really special about this poster. Yet when I look at it, it just looks rough, gritty, and rather ahead of its time, do you get where I am going with this? There is so much going on here, the tone of this poster and the themes of this movie seem rather intertwined. Plus, I definitely am a little biased as I own this poster, and loved the film.

The Dark Knight
Wow, this movie sure does seem to show up a lot in my writings and selections. However, I chose this for very good reasons. How undeniable is the performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker when he is as identifiable (if not more) than the caped crusader himself in print media. To put it simply, I look at this somewhat twisted poster and think Dark Knight. Off the top of my head I can’t think of another movie poster that features solely the antagonist in which he/she could fully embody the level of awesome you will find when you visit your local cinema, or pop in a DVD.

The Commisioner - Kevin Fraser

Posters can be works of art in and of themselves.  Simple images that inflame the imagination and bring awe and wonder of what could be. The film won’t always live up to the hype but the beauty of the poster will always live on.  Picking my favourites was a bit of an impossible task. If you asked me again tomorrow I would probably pick three completely different posters, but for today these are my choices.

Perfume : The Story of a Murderer
I saw this poster for the first time without any foreknowledge of the book or film. The simple yet captivating image immediately drew me in and I knew I had to see it. The film remains one of my favourites and the poster shows that Photoshop can be used for good. Unfortunately they decided to throw in some floating heads for the DVD release. Bah.

The Fountain
What an odd little film. It’s only fitting that it has an odd little poster. The brave choice of keeping stars Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz [beautiful] so small in frame lets you appreciate the mysterious and unusual image which demands repeat viewings, much like the film itself.

Titus
Confession time. I’ve never actually seen this film, but the poster has always stuck with me. The cracking peeling blue paint smeared over Antony Hopkins haunting visage is a very strong image indeed. If the rest of the film has imagery as strong as this I really do need to give it a watch.

So the hype is gearing up again; the rumors are swirling, the buzz is building, and the martinis are being shaken. As if there was any doubt; James Bond’s return to the silver screen is quickly approaching. It seems like just yesterday that an underwhelming Quantum of Solace was debuting nationwide. But fear not, whether it is as a ‘special advisor’, or in a directorial capacity, Sam Mendes has been tabbed to helm the next 007 adventure. With such films as American Beauty, Road to Perdition, and Jarhead under his belt, fans are craving a return to Casino Royale form. With that, let’s take a gander at the District Attorney’s latest case: The City V. 007. In this case we will examine 3 areas in which Mendes can improve upon to breathe life back into this franchise.

Have some more sloppy Bond movies. I made 'em extra sloppy for yous. I know how yous kids like 'em sloppy.

1. Lose the Continuous Storyline

What was wrong with the one off adventures? With the success of Casino Royale it seems like everyone just got lazy. Why create a new adventure when you can rehash the old one right? UH UH. Don’t get me wrong, Bond and Jaws in space was wretched, but common, there’s got to be something better than a solar powered house exploding for 30 minutes. The fact that the plot is determined based upon the outcome of Casino Royale really leaves little room to flesh out the story. Instead of becoming a Bond movie, it felt more like a Hollywood action flick, and quite sloppy.

2. Bond is a chauvinistic, sexist spy who makes puns in poor taste.. make him act like it.

Okay so the title kind of sums up what I am about to rant about. I am as progressive and ‘with it’ as the next guy. I consider women equals in all aspects of life. Now that I have that out of the way let me say this, I miss Bond’s general malaise for the opposite sex. Whether it’s slapping a woman’s backside and simply saying ‘man talk’, or informing a fem that he wants to ‘get something off her chest’; the sexism and the bad puns are what shaped the Bond character in the early years, this gritty character is what endeared us to the franchise. Speaking of bad puns, upon killing Odd Job, all 007 can say, with a glimmer in his eye, is ‘positively shocking’. He just killed a man, and he still had the wit to pull off one of those trademark one liners. This is the bond I grew up with.

3. Gadgets. Where are all of the flippin gadgets?

Probably the most obvious aspect missing from the Daniel Craig era of the Bond franchise, no Q! Granted they would have a hard time replacing the late great Desmond Llewelyn; but no submarine cars, no jet pack, and no ‘Little Nelly’. For many of us who weren’t born within the last 10 years, it’s hard to imagine a 007 without such toys that help him narrowly escape death time and time again. If there is one single thing that can bring a feeling of nostalgia and can connect the new films with the legacy of the franchise, it’s the gadgets.

Hopefully Bond 23 won't be a flaming bag of poop.

So there you have it. A very quick look at what can be done to breath new life into the Bond franchise. Whether or not the folks at MGM heed my warnings is yet to be seen. With all of that being said, the court is adjourned for today.

Bond fans are in for a bit of a wait until the next Bond flick.

Shaken not stirred please. The 23rd installment in the James Bond franchise is set to begin filming towards the end of 2010. Is it fact or fiction? Word is coming straight from the mouth of the British secret agent himself, Daniel Craig let it slip  “We start at the end of next year.”

This will be the third installment to feature Daniel Craig playing the part of James Bond. Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace earned $594 million and $586 million worldwide. Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and Peter Morgan have all been given the nod to write the next installment in the franchise while a director has yet to be named.

Hopefully Craig can lose the ‘stash’, something tells me it’s not quite 007… although… stranger things have happened in the franchise. Like a battle on a space station, thanks Moonraker.
