Javier Bardem Talks ‘Bond 23′

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Javier BardemLast week we mentioned [here] how Javier Bardem has been offered the lead in Ron Howard‘s upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower.  This was also the same week he received his second best actor nomination for Biutiful.  Well now the lucky man has been offered a role in the upcoming Bond 23 and he’s talking about it.

There are no details of his possible role, though the assumption is that he would be the villain. Now the actor has talked to the LA Times, confirming that he would be. Specifically, he says, “They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic…I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It’s very intriguing.”

Bardem hasn’t yet signed, and says his participation will be based on the strength of the material.  Bond 23 (tentative title) is set for release on November 9, 2012.  Let’s hope we see a real test for Bond this time around, another double agent taking him on perhaps?  Stay tuned.

Bond 23 Pretty Much Dead

Richard Kiel

When asked to comment, Richard Kiel went mental.

According to AintItCool, MGM has permanently cancelled all development on the next James Bond movie as the studio continues to be in the poor house.  We reported a few months back that production was halted, so we can’t say we are surprised.  I don’t blame the economy, I blame the HobbitsesSam Mendes was to direct with Daniel Craig starring again, alas this may never happen.

It could be years before the secret agent with a licence to kill is back on the big screen.  I smell a reboot, James Bond Jr. style!

James Bond 23 Suspended Indefinitely

Monday, April 19th, 2010

James BondOf all the movies that should be ‘suspended’, I don’t really think James Bond would be found anywhere on the list.  It wasn’t long ago I was talking about Sam Mendes directing Bond 23 and the casting of the girls, now it’s all just a dream.  Franchise producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have issued a statement that production of the next installment has been delayed until further notice:

“Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on ‘Bond 23′ indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of Bond 23.”

Now who knows what we’ll end up with and when we’ll end up with it?  What happens with the cast and crew that now have to move on to other work?  This does not mean that the Bond franchise is dead. But without a money backer, nothing further will happen.  Well, now they have time to check out The District Attorney’s wish list for a proper Bond flick.

Freida Pinto & Oliva Wilde, am I right?

MGM is in the middle of prepping BOND 23, which is being directed by Sam Mendes. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond and according to Yahoo UK MGM may have found their new Bond girls, Oliva Wilde (House M.D.) and Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire).

Pinto has apparently signed on to the film to play Bond’s new love interest, and Tron Legacy’s Oviva Wilde has been approached to play a double-crossing UN worker in the film, which will be based in Afghanistan.

An inside source had this to say about Sam Mendes and his James Bond film: (more…)
