Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview, things are getting good in the theaters but I had to go with The Simpsons for the header this weekend.  We shared with you this past week The Best Gifts For The Film Lover 2011, a condensed December Movie Guide and who can forget Ryan’s attempt to kill the Kevin void with his own City Strip.  Check back Monday for a special surprise to further fill that void.  BONUS: The Game Room Picture Slider has been updated, check it out.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, SpyIMDBRT (86%) – Trailer

Gary Oldman, Colin Firth and Tom Hardy will be holding an acting class this weekend in the form of a paranoid world of espionage.  I’m in.

The SitterIMDBRT (21%) – Trailer

Jonah Hill leads a bunch of kids around the city in an effort to have sex, just another Tuesday night right fellas? *high fives self.  The trailer made me laugh, I can’t ask for much more.  Some critics are turned off by foul language and nonsensical action scenes.  I say bring it on, anything to take down New Year’s Eve at the box office.

New Year’s EveIMDBRT (5%) – Trailer

A cast of hundreds couldn’t find a movie in this mess.  Shame on all of you.

OTHER:

Boardwalk Empire (HBO, Sunday) – The season finale, it’s going to be good.

The Simpsons (FOX, Sunday) – The show’s Christmas episode is set in Christmas 30 years in the future, where Homer and Marge are empty nesters and Bart, Lisa and Maggie bring their own kids over to see Homer and Marge for Christmas.

Boardwalk Empire will return for a third season reports Deadline.  The second season still holds strong on Sunday nights for HBO and has become required viewing in my TV line-up.  The show performed well at the recent Emmy Awards winning eight awards. It has one of the best cast and crews on any TV show today with Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Pitt, Terence Winter, Martin Scorsese, Tim Van Patten, Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg.

I can’t wait to see where the show is going to go as the 1920′s progresses; talking movies were invented in 1923, J. Edgar Hoover was appointed FBI director in 1924, and Hitler publishes Mein Kampf in 1925.  Needless to say, as long as the show keeps going, it’s got nothing to worry about for historical material.

We’ve already had a few teaser trailers for season 2 of Boardwalk Empire, see them here and here.  Now we have an actual trailer that further proves the upcoming season is going be to awesome, but we already knew that didn’t we?  You get booze, guns, and the KKK – you won’t find those elements on the Disney Channel.

Catch the Season 2 premiere of Boardwalk Empire, on September 25th.  Watch the trailer below:

bwalkBoardwalk Empire Season 2 has been scheduled to air in fall 2011, in the mean time we can look forward to awesome trailers like the one below.  Boardwalk Empire had a very impressive first season, following resounding critical acclaim and high viewer numbers for the series, HBO has renewed Boardwalk Empire for a second season.  A show that has contributions from the likes of Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas) and Terence Winter (The Sopranos), and a cast that includes Steve Buscemi and Michael Shannon, you just know it’s going to succeed.  This show was nothing short of amazing, I can’t wait for season 2.

HBO 2011 Line Up

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011

HBONote: It’s all subject to change.  Updates will be made accordingly.  Any omissions are probably for the best.

Here’s a look at some of the goods coming from HBO this year, it’s not a definite list so check your local listings and or HBO for more.  So gone are the days of The Wire, The Sopranos and Six Feet Under – and here are the days of great returning shows and mini-series events of 2011, let’s take a look. Boardwarlk Empire

HBO is the best.  FX comes in a close second with shows like Rescue Me (returns in July by the way) and It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.  Even after The Sopranos , The Wire and Six Feet Under have long been gone – True Blood, Eastbound and DownTreme, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Ricky Gervais Show now mark yet another landmark line up in what has to be some of the strongest TV programming in any year.  Note: Ignore the fact that they also produced the likes of Entourage and Sex And The City.

HBO’s forthcoming prohibition gangster series Boardwalk Empire has the look and feel that I have come to expect from the high standards HBO demands. It is sure to be a TV event when it premiers this fall.  Here is the third promo for the Martin Scorsese‘s directed and Terence Winter (Sopranos) written pilot which gives us a great look at lead Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson. He is the ruler of Atlantic City as a politician and gangster – making his city the center for booze, gambling and prostitution during prohibition. It’s like a dream come true. (more…)

The new HBO series Boardwalk Empire has a pilot directed by Martin Scorsese (also producer) and we have the teaser after the jump  It’s short but sweet, showing off some of the cast and costumes of the era.  No beer?  Kill me now.  The show is scripted by Terence Winter (The Sopranos) based on Nelson Johnson’s book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City. The whole thing takes place in Atlantic City during Prohibition, and primarily hinges on Steve Buscemi’s character Nucky Johnson. He’s based on a real power figure who reigned over Atlantic City for three decades.  Some more on that:

The series will detail the life and exploits of Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) who is based on the real life person Enoch “Nucky” Johnson, the “boss” of the Republican political machine that controlled Atlantic City from 1911 to 1941. The cast is rounded out by Gretchen Mol, who plays a showgirl involved with Nucky; Dabney Coleman who plays his mentor and Omar Little from “The Wire” (Michael K. Williams) playing somebody named Chalky White. And as some readers have pointed out, Michael Pitt and Michael Shannon appear in the teaser as well. Jump for the teaser.
