2013 Oscar Nominations Announced; Ben Affleck Snubbed for Best Director

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

oscarnoms

That’s really all I have to say about the nominations, Ben Affleck got snubbed.  Argo was one of the best movies of the year and he didn’t get nominated for directing (although it’s up for Best Picture).  Don’t take this year’s nominations seriously; Flight got a nomination for writing.

The 85th Academy Awards will take place on February 24th, check out the nominations below:

The CoF Weekend Preview: OK Ben We Get It, You’re Awesome

argo

Welcome to The CoF Weekend Preview, here is a look at what’s opening this weekend. Check out our Fall & Holiday Movie Guide for the rest of the year’s releases.  Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a new The Review, KFC and CoF Show!

Argo - RT (61%) – Trailer

After Gone Baby Gone and The Town, Ben Affleck really doesn’t have much more to prove with his ability to act in and direct a great movie.  He’s going for Oscar gold with this one, and it should come easy with a ‘true story’, pro-American touch.  There is also a great cast that includes everyone’s favorite John Goodman!

Sinister - RT (94%) – Trailer

This movie looks legitimately scary and twisted and I can’t want to see it.  Ethan Hawke is a great choice for a movie like this; he looks scared and paranoid all the time anyways.  Watch the trailer from the link above, there’s no words in it and it works beautifully.

Here Comes the Boom - RT (46%) – Trailer

Kevin James is doing the Kevin James thing again, so look for this to win the weekend with $60M.  He’s going to be doing a lot of falling, but just look greased up this time while doing it.

Seven Psychopaths - RT (84%) – Trailer

The best cast of any movie this year probably, and Christopher Walken playing himself (more or less) is just what people wanted, so thanks for listening guys.

ALSO OPENING Frankie Go Boom (Limited), Atlas Shrugged: Part II (Limited), Nobody Walks (Limited)

It has so much potential with the inside jokes and nostalgia that we all want to see, or it won’t not do it enough so it needs a sequel. Let’s just hope they reference Iron Tank, best game ever.

Trailer for Ben Affleck’s ARGO, Another Winner

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

argo

Here is the first trailer for Ben Affleck’s Argo, it’s a great look at the film that if it turns out as good as it looks here, would make a hat trick of terrific features for Affleck (Gone Baby Gone, The Town).

Based on a true story, Argo follows a CIA agent (Affleck) who attempts to rescue six Americans trapped in the home of the Canadian ambassador during the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The rescue mission was to go in under the auspices of filming a science fiction movie entitled “Argo”.  The film’s cast alone makes for something to see, we get Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Kerry Bishe, Alan Arkin, Philip Baker Hall and Victor Garber.

Argo opens October 12th, watch the trailer below.

John Goodman Cast in “Argo”, Ben Affleck’s Next

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

john-goodman

If you’ve been around for awhile you know that most if not all John Goodman news floating around out there will end up here on the City of Films.  The man is one of the greats, I don’t know anyone who doesn’t think so.  Today comes news that Goodman is close to joining the cast of Ben Affleck’s Argo says Variety.

Argo is based on Joshuah Bearman’s Wired Magazine article, How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran about “how the CIA and the Canadian government teamed to rescue six U.S. dipomats who’d been taken hostage at the American embassy by a group of Iranians in 1979. The CIA’s ruse involved the explanation that the six hostages were actually a Hollywood film crew scouting a movie titled “Argo,” and using those fake identities, they were able to flee the country.”
