Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have been officially confirmed for The Expendables 2. Deadline reports that the two are set to take on “substantial” roles opposite Sylvester Stallone who is also returning.  Still no confirmed word that Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris are joining, so keep dreaming folks.  Simon West is directing the sequel with filming to begin in October; original cast members Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews are expected to return.

Anthony Hopkins returns to the serial killer genre once again with Solace says Variety. Russell’s adaptation and is said also to be circling a key role in 20th Century Fox’s comedy Neighborhood Watch where Bradley Cooper is stars as “a former high school teacher who’s institutionalized for depression and then released into the care of his mother. He tries to win back his ex-wife but becomes involved with an eccentric neighbor with problems of her own.” Jennifer Lawrence is the neighbor, Robert De Niro will play Cooper’s father. Trailer: Marvel’s Thor

Monday, December 13th, 2010

ThorThe official trailer for Marvel’s THOR is here, and all you need to know is that Anthony Hopkins is a badass in it and has a golden eye patch.  I can’t say I’m too excited for this one, I don’t know much about the Thor character.  They got Natalie Portman for this one too; wow she’s a busy girl isn’t she?  Take a look for yourself in the trailer below and shout back in the comments what you think.  Directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet) the movie hits May 6th 2011.

Synopsis: Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is the mighty Thor (Chris Hemsworth), a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) and is forced to live among humans. A beautiful, young scientist, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), has a profound effect on Thor, as she ultimately becomes his first love. It’s while here on Earth that Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth. (more…)

Trailer: The Rite, Starring Anthony Hopkins

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Another exorcism movie?  Well it has Anthony Hopkins so I feel obligated to mention it anyways.   I did mention THE RITE some time ago [here] but now we have a trailer [below].

Inspired by true events, The Rite follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. Directed by Mikael Hafstroem (1408), The Rite is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil’s reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth.

The movie hits January 28th, always a good sign.

The Silence of The Lambs (1991)

THE MOVIE:
One of the finest films ever made is also often credited as being one of the best horror movies of all time as well.  That title is mainly in part to the Best Picture Oscar that was awarded.  Many people will say that horror often gets the snub come award season, but to be honest – true horror died a long time ago.  What we get not is watered down PG trash, suitable for any stomach.  Give me smarts!  Welcome, The Silence of The Lambs; (more…)

Anthony Hopkins Will Exercise The demons

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I think I can speak on behalf of most readers when I say that Anthony Hopkins is one of the best.  If you have seen my favorite Hopkins movies [Silence of the Lambs, The Edge, Hearts in Atlantis] then you know what I am talking about.  And just when we think he is slowing down, he gets right back at it.  Anthony Hopkins  is on board for a film called The Rite, a supernatural thriller from New Line. Variety tells us that Hopkins will play “a priest who is an expert in exorcisms and whose methods are not necessarily traditional.”

The book is a journalistic account of the real-world practice of exorcism. Baglio followed a priest through his education in the Catholic Church’s actual exorcism school, and continued to chronicle his work as the priest apprenticed with an Italian exorcist.  Hopkins is making fighting supernatural forces a habit of late. The actor is onscreen hunting a werewolf in The Wolfman and shooting Marvel’s Thor, in which he plays Odin, the ruler of Asgard.  More on The Rite after the jump.

twilight-stink

I'm scared for the human race.

I'm scared for the human race.

I hate this whole vampire craze that has caught on over the last couple of years. I just wanted to get that out there since a certain movie franchise and it’s fans (see the image to the right) are really getting on my nerves. In fact, Twilight is the inspiration for this very article. I don’t have any hate for the genre directly, as I was a fan of such shows as Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel during their run. But it seems like any kind of slop with romance and dreamboat guys with messy hair and fangs can accumulate huge fanfare. While it would be very easy for me to discuss why the whole Twilight franchise is a nocturnal nugget of teenage angst, I don’t plan on doing that. Instead, I want to discuss some of the top vampire films made in recent years, each of which bring something a little bit different to the table. So without further ado, and in no particular order…
