son of no oneThe trailer for The Son of No One is below. The film was written and directed by Dito Montiel (Fighting), the crime drama stars Al Pacino, Katie Holmes, Ray Liotta, Channing Tatum and Tracy Morgan.  Tatum has told MTV, “I think Tracy Morgan is going to shock the world. Nobody has ever seen him do drama or anything like that.” Hit the jump for the trailer.

Synopsis: Two friends (Tatum and Morgan) are forced to face the consequences of a murder they committed — and got away with — 16 years earlier. Tatum’s character Jonathan “Milk” White has gone on to a successful career with the police force and has a happy home life with his wife (Holmes) and Child. Morgan’s character Vinnie has kind of gone the other way. When Milk is assigned to the precinct where he grew up, his decade-and-a-half-old secret threatens to tear apart his life and his family.

Trailer for Al Pacino’s ‘Wilde Salome’

wilde-salome

“I’m doing a play. I’m doing a movie of the play. And I’m doing a documentary all at the same time. I have to function two ways: one as a director dealing with a camera, and the other as an actor. I’ve got too much to do!” So says Al Pacino at the start of the trailer for his documentary Wilde Salome.

In 2005 Pacino starred in Oscar Wilde‘s play Salome and became inspired to explore his own obsessions about Wilde’s work.  I hope what we see in the trailer below is only a glimpse of Pacino’s fall into madness and obsession; this should make for some great viewing.

Having recently just finished reading a book by David Mamet [see here] I can honestly say I think TV works best for the man.  He might be best known for the stage, so you might see where directing a TV movie is not far off the spectrum of mediums.  After his award winning performance in You Don’t Know Jack,  Academy Award winner Al Pacino will continue his biopic choices with a HBO film about Phil Spector, written and directed by Mamet.  Send in the wigs!

pacino

Phil Spector is one of the most successful music producers to ever live and he was known for making hit after hit. Unfortunately, his reputation took a dive when he was arrested and put on trial for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson in 2008.  Serving as executive producer on the film is Barry Levinson (Rain Man), says The New York Times. It’s unclear whether the film will be released theatrically or exclusively on HBO.  Stay tuned.

Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II, Heat, Raging Bull, Mean Streets and Casino.

Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro, and director Martin Scorsese (all Oscar winners) might be teaming up for a mob movie.  Ladies and gentlemen, I can say without hyperbole that this is going to be the greatest movie ever made about anything ever.

Pacino and Pesci are reportedly “circling” a film that De Niro and Scorsese have been preparing for several years called The Irishman about mob hitman Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran who claims to have killed Jimmy Hoffa and many others. Earlier this year, De Niro spoke at the Tribeca Film Festvial about the ambitious idea he and Scorsese had to make the film:

We have a more ambitious idea, hopefully, to make it a two-part type of film or two films…It’s an idea that came about from Eric Roth to combine these movies using the footage from ‘Paint Houses’ to do another kind of a [film that is] reminiscent of a kind of ‘8 1/2,’ ‘La Dolce Vita,’ [a] certain kind of biographical, semi-biographical type of Hollywood movie — a director and the actor — based on things Marty and I have experienced and kind of overlapping them.

Well whatever the hell that means, this project is going to be a few years out (if it happens) as Scorsese is currently working on his 3D family film Hugo Cabret [see here] and would probably make Silence after that, a story of Jesuits who face danger and persecution as they try to spread Christianity in 17th century Japan, which isn’t appearing on IMDB anymore.  So what does it all mean?  Let’s get excited anyways because all four of these names were in a post about a potential mob movie.

The Godfather: Part II (1974)

The Godfather: Part II (1974)

One of the best movies ever made has a scene stealer?  No joke. The Godfather Part II is a history lesson in film making, everything on screen in amazing, I choose one particular moment.  In this scene at a hotel room after a hearing, Kay (Diane Keaton) tries to leave Michael (Al Pacino) and take their children with her. Michael at first tries to mollify her, but, when she coldly reveals to him that her recent “miscarriage” was actually an abortion to avoid bringing another son into Michael’s criminal family, Michael explodes in anger and punches her in the face.  I think my favorite part is when she goes on about”this Sicilian thing” and you can literally see Michael sink, defeated.  Then of course he comes back with a right of his own.  See it below.
