Trailers

THE NEXT THREE DAYSPaul Haggis returns to perhaps divide people once again (I for one liked Crash) with a remake of the 2008 French film Pour Elle (Anything For Her).  The trailer started off strong, and then got very over top for my taste.  When movies start throwing in semi-trucks for a climax I tend to get bored.

Synopsis: Life seems perfect for John Brennan (Russell Crowe) until his wife, Lara (Elizabeth Banks), is arrested for a gruesome murder she says she didn’t commit. Three years into her sentence, John is struggling to hold his family together, raising their son and teaching at college while he pursues every means available to prove her innocence.  John decides there is only one possible, bearable solution: to break his wife out of prison.  Opens November 19th 2010.

DREW: THE MAN BEHIND THE POSTER:
You may not know Drew Struzan, but you’ve seen his artwork. Drew has drawn some of the most iconic movie posters ever including Star Wars, Blade Runner, The Goonies, Back to the Future, and Indiana Jones.  Drew is coming out with a documentary about his work and we have the trailer.

Synopsis: Telling the tale through exclusive interviews with George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox, Frank Darabont, Guillermo del Toro, Steven Spielberg and many other filmmakers, artists and critics, the journey spans Drew’s early career in commercial and album cover art through his recent retirement as one of the most recognizable and influential movie poster artists of all time. DAYDREAM NATION: Yes, this movie is named after a Sonic Youth album if you were wondering.  I really liked this trailer, not too much insight into what is actually being show on screen, that’s always a plus.  Some very nice visuals too for an “indie” movie.

Synopsis: Only seventeen years old, Caroline Wexler (Kat Dennings) is facing a teenager’s nightmare: her widowed father has moved from the city to a tiny, nowhere town where the major tourist attraction is an industrial fire that seems destined to burn forever. Everyone under the age of nineteen is permanently stoned. Concocting new ways of getting high is a major hobby for most of Caroline’s classmates, including the lovelorn Thurston (Reece Thompson), who falls for Caroline the minute he lays eyes on her, although she’s more interested in someone else. And then there’s the minor inconvenience of a killer running around the neighborhood.

LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS: Here is the first trailer for Love and Other Drugs, the romantic dramedy with Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway (Brokeback Mountain reunion guys!).  As far as I’m concerned, Hathaway has a very strong career in front of her and I would see this movie based on just her abilities as an actress.  Having said that, Gyllenhaal is also in the movie and I don’t understand his appeal just yet.

Synopsis: Hathaway portrays Maggie, an alluring free spirit who won’t let anyone – or anything – tie her down. But she meets her match in Jamie (Gyllenhaal), whose relentless and nearly infallible charm serve him well with the ladies and in the cutthroat world of pharmaceutical sales.  Love and Other Drugs opens on November 24th.

And finally, a new trailer for the re-release of Avatar: Special Edition.  The description promises “more than eight minutes of never before seen footage.”  Avatar returns to theaters on August 27th and if you didn’t get a chance to check it out, I would say live the experience on the big screen and have some fun, it was good times.  More details here.
